Did you know that mushroom picking is illegal in many European countries? Not in Poland, we love it, everyone at lease once in there life went to the forest with basket :). We learned it from our grandparents, it is part of our tradition. Make sure, while you are in Lublin ask a Lubliner for good spot for wild mushrooms picking. If you've already seen it, hopefully you've asked yourself a question "why is this lamp on in the middle of a sunny day?". It's a symbol of "eternal lamp" to memorialize the Jewish town and its inhabitants as it's one of the last pre-war lamps that prevailed until today. Also its location is nonarbitrary for it is situated in a former Jewish Quarter.

Moving to a foreign country raises a lot of questions and issues you need to consider prior to arrival. Some things can also be different for specific cities within the same country, so we want to share with you some basic tips to prepare your transfer - even if just temporary.

🤯 w e a t h e r - how many season are there in the place you intend to move to? Is it a specific region of the country with e.g. higher precipitation level or lower temperatures?

🧠 Lublin is located on a highland yet it doesn't affect the weather in any particular way you would notice. However, due to a changing climate, you need to be ready for unexpected rainfalls, temperature drops or strong winds. Pack as if all four seasons were about to take place.

🤯 b u d g e t - planning how much money you'll spend will prevent you from a rather unpleasant surprise of finding a yawning void in your pocket or an ugly empty bank account

🧠 Lublin is relatively cheap and affordable in terms of everyday living cost. Due to many student discounts, you'll be able to get some services even half the price which for example is the case with public transportation. There are certain chain markets and benefit systems enabling you to do the grocery shopping cheaper than anywhere else. There are also many bike lanes and city bikes you can rent for free + you can get pretty much everywhere on your feet since it's not a metropolis as big as NYC or even Warsaw.

Lublin Historically #6 - Zamek Lubelski

The history of this neo-gothic building is quite interesting as it dates back to the 14th century, when it was build on the place of a wooden castle by Casmir III the Great, king of Poland. In the 17th century, as a result of wars, the castle was destroyed and finally demolished in the 18th century. From the entire castle complex only the 13th-century Romanesque tower, known as Donjon, the Gothic chapel of the Holy Trinity and a section of the Gothic tower, known as the Jewish Tower, have survived to this day. After complete reconstruction of the castle between 1826 and 1828 it changed its purpose and became a criminal prison. The castle prison got closed in 1954 and since 1957 it has been the main site of the Lublin Museum.
