Just over two months left until the next Beskid Culture Week, one of the biggest and oldest folklore festivals in Europe! Over 100 groups from all over the world will perform during these 9 days. It all started in Wisła in 1964 :)

Are you wondering what these two pictures have in common...and why we are we posting a picture from Paris Fashion Week? The answer is the traditional lace from Koniakow. The designer, Rei Kawakubo opened her show with a wedding dress made from Koniaków lace :) So, if you're in the Beskids, don't forget to visit the Koniaków Lace Museum :)

Yesterday.... the traditional 'mixing' of the sheep took place. This happens once a year when the sheep go out to pasture for the spring and summer only returning at the end of September. Shepherds believe this event gives the sheep an opportunity 'to socialise with each other'. This year 1100 sheep took part owned by 20 different farmers. A priest blessed the herds and, as with all traditional festivals, there was much singing, dancing, drinking and eating!

The Diverse Downhill European Championships take place in Wisła this weekend! Once again the riders will have the challenge of navigating the demanding track on Stożek Mountain in order to win the title. Check out last year's competition video...This year could be even more fun as the weather has played a trick on us and reverted back to winter. So, snow has returned to the Beskids (just a bit!):)

A POLISH EASTER - a feast of painted hard-boiled eggs and cold meats for breakfast on Easter Sunday, delicious cakes throughout the day. And an opportunity to burn off all those calories on Smigus-Dyngus or ‘Wet’ Monday, when you can join in the fun, become a child again and throw water over everyone.

Easter is a very important celebration in the Polish calendar. In addition to its religious importance, it is very strongly associated with the advent of Spring. Usually the snow has melted, the days are longer and the flowers are starting to bloom.

Polish stars from TV, theatre, film, music and sport joined people who had successfully come through an organ transplant. A ‘Nordic Walking’ march was organised for the tenth year to raise awareness of this important issue and encourage people to consider leaving their organs for transplantation on their death. A very serious issue, but a wonderfully fun day.

As the winter season comes to a close and Wisla transforms itself once more into a spring/summer destination, there is still some unfinished 'winter' business. Wisla is proud to announce that its own Piotr Zyla broke the current Polish ski jumping record for the longest jump. Yesterday in Norway he achieved an amazing 245,5 meters! The Polish team came second in the team competition! Congratulations!!!

POLISH SKI JUMPERS ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD!
Thanks to our superb team of ski-jumpers, Poland beat off competition from Austria, Germany and Slovenia to win the World Ski Championships in ski-jumping. The team includes Piotr Zyla from Wisla who also won a bronze medal in the individual large hill competition.

Yes, yes, yes! Ski jumping fans in Wisla are elated with the results from the World Ski Championships in Lahti, Finland.

Still lots to look forward to in the Wisla Wintersports Calendar with downhill and slalom ski competitions for adults and children as well as snowboarding events. However, now the days are beginning to get longer, spring walks along the river bank and short rambles in the mountains start to beckon.

Spring is in the air – little white snowdrops are beginning to push themselves up from the ground, buds are appearing on the magnolia tree, the birds are returning and the days are getting longer.

What else can you do in the Beskids in the winter apart from skiing, cross country skiing or ski touring? For those of you who don't enjoy winter sports - why don't you try a "kulig" - a horse-drawn sleigh ride - followed by local food served around a fire all in the splendour of the winter scenery. Great fun!

We’re all waiting impatiently for the Ski Jumping here! The fifth FIS Ski Jumping World Cup takes place at Adam Malysz’s Ski Jump at Wisła Malinka. The best ski jumpers in the world will compete over the weekend of 13-15 January! Of course we are hoping for a Polish win :) Good luck to Piotr Żyła representing Wisła :)!

What a great day for Polish Ski Jumping fans yesterday! Kamil Stoch won the prestigious 4 Hill Tournament title, and Piotr Żyła, from Wisła, claimed the second place! Congratulations!

What a dramatic final of the 65th 4-Hills-Tournament in Bischofshofen. Double Olympic champion Kamil Stoch of Poland won the final event and also took the overall title of the 4-Hills-Tournament. Stoch jumped on 134.5 m and 138.5 m (289.2 points) and won the competition ahead of Austria's Michael Ha...
