Dear Friends,
Greetings from the Enchanting Island of Puerto Rico! Allow me to preface with my heartfelt apologies as I have neglected this page for such a long time.
You may wonder about my greeting as I started by stating a salutation in which I state:
“Greetings from the Enchanting Island of Puerto Rico!”
As we all know, Puerto Rico has been devastated by a major category 5 Hurricane, Maria which has devastated the entire Island approximately a month ago and left a permanent mark of chaos and destruction along it’s path!
Many things have occurred since this catastrophic event:
1. We lost our electricity but we gained “spiritual light” - It is a light that shows an unique spirit that shines amongst all adversities! A light that shows our strength of the values that have made me appreciate this land even more!
2. Water the most simple of elements that gives life to every single organic living creature and plants in this Earth! I have learned to treasure water as if it were gold, platinum and life itself! I have learned that the Puerto Rican community is always willing to “share” this scarce liquid that sustains every living creature without a second thought, a simple an noble gesture: WHAT IS MINE, IT IS YOURS AS WELL....
3. We lost the ease of speedy communication via Social Media yet WE have learned the ART of effective communication by speaking directly face to face with each other, learned to listen to many sounds that for decades may have become soundless such as the gentle breeze of the blowing wind, the early morning singing of the rooster announcing the beginning of a brand new day and, the night music created by the diverse insects and our precious tree frogs: el Coqui!
Many illnesses have sprung up and are affecting our health and daily living yet we remain steadfast focussed in the recovery efforts of our Paradise Island and our people.
I for one, have been given the option to return back to the mainland, United States to pursue my own personal work career yet, as many; I have opted to stay and not run away from this adverse and challenging times, (while admiring and respecting those who have opted to leave in pursue of their dreams after the passing of Hurricane Maria).
Puerto Rico is and will remain “la Isla de el Encanto” - The Enchanting Island of the Caribbean - United States!
Yes, I also need to share that we are in fact Americans and as such deserve equal treatment with the respect as each US state and territory.
When I opted to pursue my professional life career of being a Concierge, I I’d so with all my heart and commitment to ensure that Puerto Rico would secure a higher degree of professionalism within the tourism industry.
In 2006 I had the honor of becoming accepted into a magnificent service organization that oversees the service level and quality provided as a Hotel Lobby Concierge to our visiting guests and today I am just as honored to announce my service commitments in this profession and will continue exercise this career with the same passion but with greater love and dedication!
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Rest assured that this is not the end but the renewal of my personal professional commitment to continue to showcase the many unique and diverse natural resources that Puerto Rico has to offer and I so much look forward to being at the Lobby of a Hotel in Puerto Rico adding in service as A dedicated Concierge! Making things happen and bring guests wishes into realities.....
Please do come back again as I will be sharing informative reviews that will leave you with the desire to visit us ....
In Service,
Jossell Louie Velazquez
