Long story short, I decided to go for a second run “solo caving alpine style”, which means, no room for errors.
I was traveling light, with the bare minimum: snacks stuffed in my knee pads, one liter hydration bladder halfway full in my petite jogging backpack, which also had one extra Sten light with battery, a space blanket, and an ankle air immobilizer. On my helmet I had another reliable Sten light and a small flashlight mounted on the side.

I clocked 2 hours and 46 minutes of 6 miles (rough estimate) of underground passages full with crazy obstacles.
I must clarify that this is not considered speleology or even normal sport caving. It was more of a physical and mental challenge, fueled by curiosity. How fast can it be done? was the most burning question of several that I had.
Some non-adventurous people will ask: But why?
A practical, although ambiguous, answer could be: “Because it’s there.”—a quote stolen from George L. Mallory when he was asked the very same question as he prepared to climb Mount Everest.
Remote places where you are surrounded by adventure and nature’s beauty, toped out with rich history, will have this motivating effect on many humans.
“At best such men are regarded as eccentric; at worst, as completely mad.” expressed Walt Unsworth, adventure author and editor.
I would prefer “life seekers”—people who use adventure as a mean to have a life well-lived.

“The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.”
— W.M. Lewis

What are you waiting for? Adventure awaits out there; or should I say, deep down there.

For the first time a thru trip of The Rio Camuy Cave System has been done in one go. This feat was long overdue mainly because of logistics involved in dealing with many obstacles like: mayor barriers that required climbing and pre-rigging, sumps and long water passages, bat guano pits and rooms, magnetic mud, waterfalls and of course, pitch blackness. Weather timing was also a critical element to avoid being trapped in-between low ceiling passages in case of flash flooding. Our strategy was to go light and move fast down stream. Several caving days were done not just for rigging but also for determining the best route thru mazes of collapsed blocks the size of buses. Having a good skillful team and being in good physical condition was of most importance for accomplishing this Tour De Force. Team members: Edda Jimenez-coordinator and support. Anthony Castro-rescue leader on standby. Jeremy Stotz-caver from the mainland. Hexan Gonzalez-caver from Puerto Rico. Rossano Boscarino-local caver and team captain.

So much life thriving at Culebra. I just found out that about 75% of all life on earth is marine life. I can attest to this with just one dive.

Save you carabiners!
The Bullet series carabiner from Elderid will save the day, or should I say “will save the carabiner”?
Steel inserts will avoid premature wear from rope friction and sharp edges making this a thing of the past!
I believe every sport climber should have at least two quick-draws for every top rope set up. They can also be applied for rappelling, belaying and more. Come check out some other cool toys from this German quality bran at Aventuras.

We are back, but wanted to post this last picture from Arco, Italy. Do you notice something in the blue sky (for now). Chemtrails? At one point (another day) there where at least 20 lines forming giant crisscross patterns. This made me dig into the subject and found some interesting government (“public”) documents. I’ll find them again and add them to this post.

Heli: 6c, A0, another 5 star route (not quite) with some excellent pitches and some
so-so ones. Slab climbing (smearing) on trafficked (slightly polished) dolomite rock is always sketchy.

On our rest day
we decided to do a little active rest. We read from our climbing guide book about a hike thru tunnels of WWI with an easy access using a cable car, so decided to go for it.
Little did we know we were about to visit the site of the most treacherous and deadliest battle ever seen in the Italian mountains. A place of beauty and horror that mix in a strange way and remains today as one of the least-known historical events of mankind.
As an extra treat and just by coincidence, it was the same day of the toughest marathons I have witnessed. The Delicious Trail running race of about 43 km with a positive difference in altitude of about 3100 meters.

This is what happens to your climbing guide books when you can’t find a photocopy machine. Staying on route on these massive Dolomite walls could be the biggest challenge of the climbs. The protection (fix gear) is scarce, camouflaged and old. Placing your own gear is not always possible. Even the descents could be tricky. To add a more, moving fast is critical (because of the weather and length of the route) and going light is usually the best alpine strategy. Sacrificing a nice but heavy guide book by ripping a few pages could save the day and more.
