I 💚❤️ Albufeira... ( Chapter 3 )
It's impossible not to like the Algarve.
I am very proud to have grown up in Albufeira and Lagos, to be a resident and a certified tour guide in the Algarve... passionate about my beautiful region.

After several days of rain and storms, rain that we welcome very well, sunny weather returned to the Algarve... and of course, there's nothing like enjoying a good sunset at the end of the day.
For example, today, we were expecting 18 degrees Celsius in Albufeira.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Yesterday, 27th of January, Lagos proudly celebrated the 452nd anniversary of Lagos becoming a city.
This historical date is a milestone for the city and its inhabitants, from the granting of the Charter by D. Manuel I, in 1504, to the official recognition as a city on 27th of January 1573, by the young king D. Sebastião.
Well, for those you like historical drama, try to read about king Sebastião... it was a king that originated a nightmare lasting 6 decades in which Portugal would never be the same.

The status of Lagos brought even more prestige to this beautiful land, making Lagos the seat of the Governors of the Kingdom of Algarve and consolidating its place as one of the most important places in the History of Portugal.
Why I mentioned the Kingdom of the Algarve if this region is also a portuguese region ? Oh yes, another very interesting fact that you should read about it. Portugal´s history is full of amazing facts and events.

As I also studied in Lagos during five years, I might sound biased but Lagos and its resilient people have survived, throughout history, several epidemics and pestilences, attacks by pirates and corsairs, several earthquakes over time, invasions by the French armies and civil war, both in the 19th century and the sending of some of the municipality's sons to France during the First World War... and I could go on.
These are amazing people.

Oh by the way, did you know that the first expeditions to the west coast of Africa and the beginning of the Portuguese Discoveries into unknown seas began in Lagos?

Here are some photos that I photographed during my tours at different times and different seasons of the year... in Lagos and its surroundings.

And when our country has such delicious food, it's impossible not to say that we have one of the best cuisines in the world.
To prove that portuguese food is one of the best, post the "delicious" photos you have, in the comments. Show us all those foodie photos... oh, and don´t forget the sweets 🫣🤭😋.
Wow, I just had lunch and my mouth is already watering.

Note: Here are just a few photos. Regarding food and delicacies, Portugal has much more.
The last two photos aren´t mine.
All the rest were taken by me during meals with my family or visitors during my tours.

A picture is worth a thousand words ( Number 1 ).
This photo was taken by me in... wait, let´s do a quiz.
Where was this picture taken ???
Clue: somewhere in the Algarve.

Low season... High season... Winter... Summer... it doesn´t matter, the Algarve is always beautiful.

📸 Photo taken during one of my tours with visitors that requested a walk along the coast.

The Algarve seen through my eyes... well, I mean through different windows (Chapter 1).

A window is something through which you can see the world outside... in this case, my beautiful Algarve.

Did you know that in 500 BC, in Persia, now Iran, there were already buildings that used openings with closures similar to what we understand as windows today?
The Romans also strongly influenced the history of windows but that will be the curiosity of Chapter 2.

There is always the opportunity for you to take a peek through a window and see things from a different perspective. Enjoy!!!

Arches in the Algarve ( Chapter I )
Many of those who visit the Algarve, whether national or foreign, usually are attracted by the sun, the sea, the magnificent beaches and the good climate.
But beyond that, there is also another Algarve that reveals itself, particularly to those who insist on a second, closer look.

Today I'm going to show you some details of arches in the Algarve, whether they are natural arches on our coast or arches created by man in buildings, castles, bridges, etc...
As I like writing and I like these topics, and as sometimes I write too much, there is nothing better than a few eye-catching photographs.
Check the photos as all of them were taken by me in the Algarve, during my tours and they show you natural arches made by nature and man-made arches.

Portugal is a wonderful country that has a beautiful region to the south... well, much further south as the Algarve is the southernmost region of my country.
I know, I can be biased but for me the Algarve is my beautiful region, the place in the world that captures my heart every day.
Maybe it may seem biased because this is the region where I grew up and where I live and work, but the Algarve is really special.

This piece of land is rich in history, nature, cuisine, traditions and friendly, good people.
However, it isn´t only a paradise region for lovers of good food and sun and beach lovers. It is also a region with wonderful details of architecture and art, even if it is art produced by nature itself, with its elements of erosion.

Every window, arch or door, every house and building and every street tells a story, a moment, a fact or event.
The most interesting thing is that we can see throughout the Algarve the various periods and styles in our architecture... from Muslim influence to Gothic, from Renaissance to Baroque, from Revivalism to Art Deco, the Algarve is proof that there is more to explore in a destination known for its beaches and coastline.

Being the capital of the Algarve, Faro is a city with much more to visit than visitors/tourists think.
Although this is starting to change, the capital of the Algarve has more advantages than just a gateway to beaches, caves and pretty seaside villages.
Without a doubt, the beaches, caves and beautiful villages by the sea are beautiful, but there is something more to explore.

Culture, History, Architecture, Gastronomy and the Barrier Islands make Faro a city to visit.

Faro has seen it all throughout its history.
It was prosperous during the Roman Empire, Muslim rule and during the Portuguese maritime epics. It has survived several invasions, including the Napoleonic invasions, looting by North African privateers, looting by English privateers, earthquakes, civil war... well, it is a beautiful and resilient city, which makes visiting this city even more fun.

Here are some photos about Faro but... this post is just a tease of the real post about Faro, which I will publish in the next few days.

Stay tunned 😉

Christmas isn't that far away... just 13 days until Christmas Day🌠.
Our cities, towns and villages are all lit up, Christmas markets are already taking place, people are already organizing their Christmas gift shopping, and we can already feel a different energy in the air. This is one of the most beautiful times of the year.

I know this little Christmas video is amateurish, but I did it with passion

I wish everyone Happy Holidays, with great affection... a season full of peace, love, friendship and happiness.
Family, Friends, Partners, Followers, Guests, Visitors... 🎅 Merry Christmas !

Sometimes, many people ask on social media what the weather will be like in this or that month of the year, in the Algarve.
Well, Algarve is very diverse.
Of course, it is not possible to predict what the weather will be like in a month or more.
However, it is possible to check what previous years were like to get a general idea.

As a new year approaches in less than a month, here is some information about what a few days in January 2024 were like in a certain area in the Algarve... and with photos.
Note that last January was very hot for this time of year. Typically, temperatures are lower.

Photo 1: Lagos - 4th of January - 18º degrees - Cloudy skies and chowers

Photo 2: Galé Beach ( Albufeira ) - 5th of January - 17º degrees - slightly cloudy sky

Photo 3: Praia Nova Beach - 10th of January - 18º degrees -slightly cloudy sky

Photo 4: Senhora da Rocha Chapel - 11th of January - 17º degrees - slightly cloudy sky

Photo 5: Albufeira ( Inatel ) - 25th of January - 21º degrees - slightly cloudy sky

All photos were taken by me.

Low season in the Algarve ( Chapter 1 )
For those who like to travel in the Algarve in the quieter season and like to enjoy a little more peace and quiet to visit the villages, towns, monuments, beaches and cliffs and even enjoy the cafés and restaurants without too many tourists, here are some photos.

Algarve is special all year around. It doesn´t matter if it´s autumn or winter, spring or summer, the Algarve has always that special atmosphere

All the photos were taken by me in different parts of the Algarve. I know these photos look amateurish, but they were taken with passion.

Loulé Market ( Algarve )... this morning.
What an extraordinary atmosphere.

The Producers' Market, known as the Saturday Outdoor Market, takes place weekly in the streets surrounding the Loulé Municipal Market, always on Saturdays.

Among many products today, we found some of inestimable value and identity of our region, as well as oranges, pomegranates, almonds, dried figs, carob, honey and regional liqueurs.
The variety of cheeses, sausages, honey and even codfish fills our soul... well, I love these mornings at the markets.

It is interesting to say that many foreign languages can be heard on the streets, a sign that not only Portuguese residents love the markets but also foreign residents and visitors/tourists. It is wonderful to feel this diversity of nationalities.

Did you know... that the Loulé Municipal Market, with 234 photovoltaic panels installed on the roof, is almost 50% 💡 energetically self-sustainable!

The video I created is a bit amateur but reflects the portuguese passion for local markets.
The song is from Marta Pereira da Costa and is called "Encontro". Marta is a great portuguese musician and plays the portuguese guitar.
Enjoy

What an amazing day, even with clouds and some rain ( two days ago ).
Weather forecasts, while generally reliable, are not always perfect.
A cloudy day in a travel destination like the Algarve can really improve the experience as expectations are low because of the forecast but tourists may even be surprised with a great visit.

This was a tour with 4 amazing canadians visitors, in Loulé, Albufeira and Porches. They enjoyed a lot the visit to that area. Well, it turned out to be an excellent day and at the end everyone was happy and I had the opportunitu to improve my french.

Merci beaucoup Joanne, Lianne, France et Donald, pour la merveilleuse compagnie et pour m'avoir permis de pratiquer mon français.
( Thank you very much Joanne, Lianne, France and Donald, for the wonderful company and for allowing me to practice my French )

Here are some photos taken during the tour.
Even though it has been cloudy and rainy, Albufeira is always a great place to visit.

The atmosphere feels quieter and more serene, giving tourists a chance to experience the region in a different, perhaps more relaxed, light.

So, even if the forecast seems to predict a gray day, that doesn't mean the trip will be boring. You have to have a positive spirit and embrace the unexpected climate as it can create surprising and memorable moments.

For me, as a guide, nothing makes me happier when at the end of the day people say that I live in a wonderful region and that they had a magnificent day. Their smiles are priceless.

Warm Regards from the Algarve (22º degrees today... not bad at all).

Day off in the Algarve... Municipality of Albufeira.
Even a local tour guide deserves a break on the beach. Nothing better than spending a day of sun and beach with your wife... also with good food and a beautiful sangria.
What a wonderful autumn day... amazing weather in October.
This is the Algarve... a few minutes ago I was talking to a Danish couple who were visiting the Algarve for the first time and it was nice to know that they didn't want their vacation to end. They want to come back again.
For a local Algarvia tour guide like me, it is a pleasure to feel that people want to return to our region again... to our Algarve. And they all say the same: " you live in a beautiful place".
An excellent weekend for everyone.
