Where is this beautiful beach in the Algarve?
It´s Quiz time, my friends!!!
The beauty of the Algarve should be shared, right?
We all agree with that.
But this time we're going to reverse the roles and I'll be the one asking where I took these photos.
Where is this beach? 🤔🤔🤔
Let's see how many of you get the answer right... and don't be ashamed of failing.
It´s Quiz time, my friends!!!

I came across Quantunna at Loulé Market in the Algarve, this morning during a tour.
When you hear the name tuna you immediately associate with the tuna fish right?
Well, in Portugal Tuna, not to be confused with the fish, has been a tradition in Portuguese universities for centuries. A Tuna is a group of students and academics still come together to sing, dance, and play music to preserve this historic tradition.

In this case, this group of University students is Quantunna, from Coimbra University and this was their performance at Loulé Market, in the Algarve, this morning.
You see, the Algarve is always surprising locals and visitors.
Come visit the Algarve and you will not be disappointed.

17th of June, Story of the day… Wild Western Algarve
Today I was fortunate to be the tour guide of an amazing american couple with three daughters.
The day started with a wonderful sunny morning with light wind. I wasn´t expecting this weather today as the last few days were so windy.
When they embarked on this marvellous trip to the Western Algarve, they had no idea of the wonders that awaited them in this sunny corner of Portugal.
The tour was magical… a tour that I called Wild Western Algarve.
I decided to give them a mixture of different experiences… part adventure, driving along the coast by off the beaten tracks, part great food experience and part beach time.
They were very happy to be away from the mass tourist sites.

We started Lagos coast where we walked towards two natural gems They were already amazed but the best part was just going to start.

We headed to the northwest of the west coast and when we arrived at a surfer's paradise, everyone went to the beach. Ok, ok, the water was a little cold but crystal clear.
The waves weren't big but the local Surf schools had their apprentices in the water who were trying to learn how to master their boards but the waves were in charge there and it was funny to see those tourists struggling to stand up on their boards.

Before lunch, still having to decide where it would be as no one wanted to eat before two o'clock in the afternoon, I took a very secondary road and took them to a rural village, with whitewashed houses and decorated with beautiful flowers and slate plaques identifying each house. .
They were surrendered to the deep Algarve but not far from the coast... that Algarve that most people don't know.

Lunch in Sagres was different and it perfectly fit that cool vibe
After exploring the village of Sagres and Cape Saint Vincent, it was time to visit a couple villages on the coast as our tour was near the end.
Everytime we visited a different spot the sea was different as there are beaches facing different directions.

When we reach the end of a day of touring and visitors say to me Thank you very much for a fantastic day in your region! We loved discovering your beautiful world and without your help, we wouldn't have been to all the incredible places we visited, it's impossible not to be proud to live in this wonderful region... The Algarve.
They realised how much our region had captured their heart… its natural beauty, rich history, great food and warm, welcoming people… all these details together had made their day with me truly unforgettable.

Note: I don't have photos of the family enjoying each spot because when there are children on a tour, I always protect their privacy and never display photos of children on Facebook.

Let´s call this Chapter 2: " Old Town Albufeira in shades of Blue... 💙"
Whether it's on a wall, a door, a window, tiles, or even the sea and the sky, Albufeira Old Town offers us different shades of blue if we explore the right places.
Of course, the whites are always present.

Enjoy the photos I took in the Old Town.

Today we celebrate EARTH DAY all over the planet.
About Holidays! Let's reduce our ecological footprint on holidays.

Going to the beach, travelling, exploring cities, meeting new cultures and making friends throughout the world... being a tourist revives the soul and enriches us as people, but what about the environmental impact of tourism?
That good weather has begun and Portugal, as a prime tourism destination, will soon be entering middle and peak season.
Let´s protect my beautiful country.

Here are some tips from Johnny on how we can minimise the impact of holidays:
- Don't leave rubbish behind

- In restaurants, when the bottle of water that comes to the table has not been fully consumed, bring the bottle to consume the rest of the water during the day. It doesn´t look an important detail but it is. It is urgent to safe and reuse water as the Algarve is still living a drought. Water and climate change are inextricably linked. Climate change affects the world’s water in complex ways.
- Turn off the air conditioning when you leave your accommodation

- Eat local fruit and avoid imported fruit
Simple isn't it!
Next time you pack your suitcase, don't forget that small attitudes can inspire and influence many others. The planet thanks you!
I only wrote these ecological ideas so that you can suggest other tips.

What should be your ecological tip for other people holidays?
What are your eco-friendly suggestions for this summer's holidays?
Johnny's Tours wishes an excellent week to all of you.

Algarve´s Monuments and Sites....

Tomorrow, 18th of April, the International Day for Monuments and Sites. is celebrated all over the world.
There will be activities, events, open days and more.

The Algarve isn´t an exception as we have a rich History and Culture. It is a good opportunity to know the heritage of a secular region like the Algarve ( check the photos ).

Every year on 18 April, the “International Day for Monuments and Sites” is celebrated. This day was approved by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference in 1983.
The aim is to promote awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage, the vulnerability of sites and monuments, and the efforts required for their protection and conservation.

As in previous years, there will be walks and guided tours, events and exhibitions, and all kinds of activities. It will be a day that should be celebrated by everyone.

Have an excellent Monuments and Sites International Day.

Photos: These photos are from some or our monuments and sites in the Algarve... of course there many more.

Interesting details about Portugal:
⏳⏰Time, hours and time zones ⌚️⏱

Today's dawn, the time changed in Portugal, Ireland and the United Kingdom and today I decided to post these photos and write this text to talk about time and the time zone of Portugal.

In the past, and mentioning the Algarve, the time in public places could be seen in the centres of towns and cities, on the bell towers of churches, on Town Hall / City Hall buildings ( example: Silves ), on the arches at the entrances to historic centres (example: Faro), and on clock towers ( in the case of both photos of Albufeira, the clock tower is thought to have been the old minaret of the Al-Buhera mosque).

This can still be seen in Portugal and in the case of the Algarve, my beautiful region, here are some examples that the photos show you.
When I took those photos ( with the exception of the second photo ), I looked to those little details... the clocks. That important detail that most of the time we miss.

About the change of time... as in many - but not all - other countries, there is a national change to summer and winter time, with clocks being put forward by 1 hour in summer.
In Portugal, for example, the next time change will be on the last Sunday in October, for winter time, with the clocks being set back 1 hour.

The starting point for measuring time zones is the Greenwich Meridian, situated at 0º.
In short, the time will be advanced or delayed in relation to the meridian, which is the base point for measurement.
And my country, Portugal, is located exactly on the Greenwich Meridian time zone.

The idea of Daylight Saving Time came the United States in 1784: to change the time to gain an hour of sunlight and save energy.
Do you know who was the brain of this idea ? Benjamin Franklin.
Looks strange to talk about saving energy in the 18th century ?
That was one of the main reasons Benjamin Franklin proposed that.

In 1912, time in my country, began to be governed by the time zones of the Washington Convention, and continental time became that of time zone zero, by the Greenwich Meridian.

But it wasn't until 1916 ( First World War ), when Germany was at war and faced with a shortage of coal, that it decided to change the time.
The Allies followed and Portugal was no exception.
From 17 to 18 June 1916, for the first time, the time changed in Portugal and the clocks were moved forward one hour. There was controversy, humour and censorship, but the truth is that - with a few interruptions - the habit of moving the hands of the clock has continued for the last 100 years.

And if, on the one hand, the time change was decreed to save coal, on the other, theatres were granted tolerance, allowing them to open later to avoid losses.
So, while the Allies had a theatre play at 8pm, in Portugal the Theratres didn't open until 10pm, which created other problems: the shows ended between 1am and 2am, by which time the tram routes had finished.

The solution was to change the tram timetable and the last tram left Rossio at 01:50am.

Portugal was, after all, a very modern country. Well, not quite, and don't get me wrong, Portugal was modern in certain ways but far behind developed countries in many other aspects.

Did you know:
One of the earliest known civilizations to develop a system of timekeeping was ancient Egypt. Oh yes, so long ago, right ?
The Egyptians divided the day into two twelve-hour periods, each corresponding to day and night.
They used sundials and water clocks, known as clepsydras, to measure time during the day, while the position of stars and the movement of celestial bodies helped them navigate the night.
Amazing how they already tried to measure time. I find very interesting the fact that time started to interest mankid so long ago.

I'm sorry if this was a long text but I get lost in these subjects and facts. Even the time change can be interesting... I always say that there is History in everything and there are lots of stories to tell about all kind of themes.

Wishes of a great week ahead and a wonderful April to all.

Note: Check in each photo the detail of the clocks. You can mentioned which one you prefer.

Greetings from the Algarve 🌞

The sky in the Algarve speaks in a thousand colours.
Sunset holds various symbolic meanings across cultures and contexts, often representing the culmination of a day's journey.
Is there anything more peaceful then taking in the quiet beauty of the setting sun?
Have a great week.

As the year comes to a close, Christmas serves as a reminder to cherish the moments spent with those we hold dear and to reflect on the people and events that surround us.

It is a time to appreciate the beauty of traditions, the magic of giving, and the hope that comes with a new beginning... and the world need a new beginning, my friends.

This is the season of joy and merriment, as the air becomes infused with the magical spirit of Christmas 🌠.
With the twinkle of lights adorning homes, the aroma of freshly baked treats wafting through the air, and the sounds of Christmas songs echoing in the streets and in the shops, the festive season brings a warm and enchanting glow to the Algarve... well, to the world.

Cities and towns and little villages transform into winter wonderlands, with streets lined with sparkling decorations and storefronts adorned with festive displays.
The chill in the air is met with the warmth of hot chocolate, shared with loved ones as a comforting gesture against the winter cold... well, that´s not really what happens in the south of Portugal as we are still enjoying very nice Autumn temperatures and hot chocolate isn´t a big tradition. It´s more a northern thing.

In the gentle glow of holiday lights, Christmas brings people together, creating memories that linger in the heart and echo with the timeless message of love, peace, and goodwill to all... Peace, oh that word...

Before ending this long text, I would like to thank everyone, from my family, friends, followers, visitors/tourists and business partners, for the support and trust placed in Johnny, in order to create unique experiences, smiles and happiness during our visitors' holidays.
🙏 Muito Obrigado 🙏

✨🌟I wish you all a Merry Christmas Season and a wonderful 2024. May your wishes come true in 2024 🎆

Note: This is a amateur video but I made it with heart and soul. I really hope you like it

I Love this place ( Chapter 1 ).
I love this place a lot and that's why I've decided to share with you this great little treasure in the countryside of the Algarve.

I hope this post isn't too long, but today I'm going to take you to the traditional Algarve countryside... with this post we're going to visit a very special farm/wine estate between Silves, Monchique and Lagoa, where the vineyards and the mountains provide the ideal backdrop.

This property was founded in the early 1810s and this place remains in the same family, now with the fourth generation.
Those who work here feel the call of the land and for these people this is their way of life and way of being.
The old and the new coexist in this beautiful place, in its wines and in their way of doing things...

In addition to the vineyards, the property is surrounded by millenary olive trees, fig trees, carob trees and plum trees, all grown organically, and also has a vegetable garden and a chicken coop. Finally, there are old whitewashed houses typical of the Algarve to welcome guests looking for the tranquillity offered by rural tourism.

Talking the other day to one of the owners, Mrs Teresa Vasconcelos, I felt that these people feel that land, those grapes... that piece of paradise.
That day I was with 13 ladies from USA and Mrs Teresa not only she greeted each of them on arrival as she also was on the table with the group explaining details about the food and the wine.

We were so blessed as weather was magnificent.
🌞 If the weather permits, customers gather under the 2,000-year-old olive tree, and with a view of the old Negramole vineyards and the Serra de Monchique... at a long table, visitors enjoy an Algarvian menu accompanied by a tasting of four of the farm wines 🍷. People delight in authentic stories about the farm before strolling through the vineyards.

If the weather isn´t perfect, the experience will happen inside the main house, a beautiful and charming typical algarvian house.

Morgado do Quintão's vineyards are some of the oldest in the Algarve and it is here that great award-winning wines are also produced.
On these lands there are 15 hectares of old vines ( 🍇Negra Mole, Crato Branco, Castelão) and another 8 hectares of new planted vines.

Now... after reading this long text of mine and watching the photos, where are we in the Algarve ? Do you know where is this beautiful place ?
Enjoy the photos 📸
