On Terceira Island, after working for another local company, he decided to create TerceiraTours, which offers slow tours for private groups, providing a unique experience and greater contact with the locals.

"We have so much to offer in niche experiences, such as coffee plantations, interactions with donkeys, and other local experiences. My vision is exactly to promote tourism that is also good for the residents," he explains, emphasizing that there is demand for this type of offering.

For Ivo Silva, who is the sole worker in the company, it is "a year-round business" thanks to a partnership with the Angra do Heroísmo City Council ( Câmara Municipal de Angra do Heroísmo ), under the project Tourist in Your Land.

"If it were only for external tourists and, since we work exclusively with private tours, between mid-October and April the business would be greatly reduced," he says, believing, however, that this reality may change in the future.

🍻FRIEND'S DAY IN THE AZORES

Legend has it that, in the various parishes of the Azorean islands, people would gather on Thursdays (known as "serão" nights) to sort the wheat and other cereals that would be used in the Holy Spirit celebrations. During the evening, poems and songs celebrating friendship were recited.

As a result of this tradition, even today, the four Thursdays leading up to Carnival are dedicated to very special festivities: the Azoreans start with Friends' Day, followed by Ladies' Friends' Day, then Godfathers' Day, and finally Godmothers' Day.

Today, being the first Thursday of the four leading up to Carnival, is reserved for the celebration of friends, with a good "serão" among men...

Attention Travelers to the Azores!

Starting in mid-2025, travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the United States, will need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) authorization to visit Schengen Area countries like Portugal and its Azores region.

Key Points about ETIAS:

Implementation Timeline: Expected to be operational by mid-2025.

Application Process: A brief online application is required, with a fee of €7 for individuals aged 18-70. Most applications are processed within minutes, but it's recommended to apply at least 96 hours before departure.

Validity: ETIAS is valid for three years or until your passport expires, permitting multiple short-term stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period).

Purpose: Enhances EU security by pre-screening travelers before arrival.
