Have you ever tried Alcatra à Moda da Terceira? It's a typical dish from the Azores that dates back to around 1450, at the beginning of the settlement of Terceira Island. It is believed that the first settlers of this island came from Beiras, in the region of Trás-os-Montes, northern Portugal, where there was (and still is) a very common dish made with goat meat called chanfana, which was the source of inspiration.

In the past, alcatra, as it was considered the best part of the animal, was only offered to the landlords. For the farmers, only the less noble parts with bones were given. However, by trying alcatra with bone pieces, the landlords came to the conclusion that the dish became much tastier, and it became part of the Alcatra à Moda da Terceira recipe.

This dish has become indispensable to the inhabitants of Terceira Island, especially during festive seasons such as Easter Sunday and the "Funções" of the Holy Spirit. In addition, all tourists who go to Terceira seek to try this delicacy, as it is a true gastronomic attraction of the region.
