According to experts it can be explained as the granite “mother rock” erodes, the nodules “baby stones” are released from the rock leaving a cavity in the granite, which is why it is described as a “rock that delivers a stone”.
Arouca, where this rare phenomenon takes place, was classified as UNESCO Global Geopark in 2009. Nowadays, it already has an Interpretation Center that was inaugurated in 2012.
