Surfskate is one of the most powerful tools to accelerate your progress. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to improve advance maneuvers, training on land helps build muscle memory, coordination, and flow. It is like a surf session of 100 waves when normally in the water you only manage to get 5.
At Tiny Whale Surf Lodge, we use surfskate as part of our holistic coaching approach. On your first day, you’ll get familiar with the basics, with someone by your side, even holding your back hand if needed. It’s a safe, supported way to start building confidence in your turns and posture.
As you progress, the support becomes more subtle; just a light push from the hips to guide your body into proper positioning. This hands-on guidance helps you feel the correct technique before your body learns to repeat it naturally.
We use cones to create surfskate circuits adapted to your level. Whether you're working on generating speed, practicing cutbacks, or improving your stance, each circuit mimics real surf scenarios, so you're training with purpose.
Video analysis takes your training even further. Recording your movements helps identify exactly what to adjust. You’ll see what’s working, what’s not, and how to improve with clear visual feedback from your coach.
After the review, it's time to get back to practice with focus. The changes you work on during surfskate sessions translate directly to your next paddle out. More control, better flow, and smarter movement in the water, that’s the goal!.
