The Algarve’s famous South coast is known for its caves, sea stacks, and rock arches. But we have a few hidden gems out here on the West coast, too. What makes them even more special is that, well, no one else knows about them. There are no crowds of boats, kayaks, and paddle boarders, no tour busses, no fences or signs.

As Spring ends, Summer love is in the air! Swimming season has begun.

The water on the Algarve’s West Coast is never warm — this is the open Atlantic, not the Med — but on summer days, after a few hours of hiking, nothing feels better than a revitalizing dip in the sea.

With a little effort and know-how, we can find our own private secluded beach to do it, something that’s only possible in the Algarve on the wild West coast.

Spring in the Algarve starts early: mid-December, really. Sorry, northerners.

From then until April, the landscape here gets ever greener, lusher, and more colorful, until it is exploding with life and color, a riot of wildflowers, vegetation, and happy birds and bees.

Spring has definitely ended, and we are now diving headlong into the Algarve’s main season: Our long, sunny, dry summer.

As the colors fade from the landscape, I wanted to give a shout-out and some major gratitude to the “primavera”. Thanks, Spring, you were great. Can’t wait to see you again next year.
