You’ll discover one of the most beautiful locations off the coast in Peniche! Berlengas, Portugal, is an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, and you’ll reach the main Berlenga island after 40-45 minutes by boat.

The island is fantastic for nature lovers, and the old Fort São João Baptista is the main attraction.

The island was on my wishlist for some time, and when a local told me I could stay overnight, I was sold! Curious? Read the latest blog post to find out why the Berlengas became one of my favourite destinations in Portugal!

Some places in Portugal are COLD 🥶 this week!

Expected temperatures in the north and centre will be as cold as -8 at night! But only in specific areas. If you want to see some snow, head to Serra da Estrela, the highest mountain range in mainland Portugal. 🏔

There is even a ski slope, and you can rent skis on-site! ⛷

Every season in Portugal has its charm! And in most places, it´s still pretty warm. Do you prefer the heat or the cold? ⛄

Where are my CHEESE LOVERS 🧀😍

When you´ve been to Portugal, you might already know there are some fabulous cheeses in the country. One of my favourites is the Serra da Estrela cheese. But there is one thing that makes this cheese even tastier...

At Casa Portuguesa do Pastel de Bacalhau, you can try fishcakes FILLED with cheese! Their first store was on Rua Augusta in Lisbon, but check out how beautiful this Vila Nova de Gaia store looks!

Tag a fellow cheese lover who would love to try Pastel de Bacalhau with cheese! 🧀 And don´t miss this spot when visiting Porto!

🏭 MAAT Part 2 - Did you know that besides the MAAT Gallery, you can visit MAAT Central? Besides amazing exhibitions, you can visit the former power station!

🔌 It was in service until the 1970s, although most services stopped in 1954. Central Tejo was used as a thermal power station, and you can still see the boilers, generators, and much more!

The Power Station Tour is an amazing way to dive into the history of the building! Read the guide here: https://www.discover-portugal.com/maat-lisbon/

The Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology consists of two buildings, and aside from the exhibitions, the structures are amazing!

Send this to someone who loves art and architecture as much as you do! 😍

Today, two years ago, I flew to Portugal with my (now 14-year old) cat Savage, to start a new adventure! 🇵🇹

🧳I left the Netherlands in 2006, to live in England (4 years), Ireland (7 years), and Germany (6 years) so moving wasn’t new to me. What was new is that Portugal was a very conscious choice. I did it for me, and not a job or other external factors.

I could easily move my freelance work as a writer and photographer too. The climate, the people, and nature captivated me 🤩 and I’ve loved every minute so far!

Only a few months afterwards I started the Discover Portugal blog, to inspire people visiting the country. It made me want to explore even more! And there is so much to see and do 😍

There are some plans already in place for 2024, so watch this space 😊 and in the next years I hope to visit many other places such as the Azores, Alentejo and the north of Portugal.

What’s your favourite spot in the country? 🤔 let me know what locations I should add to my wish list 👇
