Over 400 years ago the Portuguese azulejo was inspired by textiles, now the Portuguese brand Borel does the opposite, coming up with an innovative way for people to create their own unique "azulejo" panels. We are introducing "lenço dos namorados" meaning boyfriends scarf.
In the Minho region, north of Portugal, we may speak of a matriarchal society, unlike any other Portuguese region. Therefore, whom to marry was not traditionally decided by the father, but a young girl's choice.
She would take a small square-shaped piece of homemade linen and embroider it with decorative motives of her choice and romantic words such as Love (Amor) or sentences. They would also use metaphoric images. They would elaborate the scarfs after a day working in the fields and, as they were poorly educated, they would write with many faults.
The scarf would be given to a boy of her and, if he used it on Sunday mass, the romance would start.
The scarfs are usually lovely and colorful, a great souvenir to take home.

in central is part of the European Group of Historic Gardens. It is an ancient walled park, with a perimeter of 5 km. It was home to the Carmelites, which convent we can still visit and where the future Duke of Wellington slept while commanding the Anglo-Portuguese troops against Napoleon's Army. It has exotic trees and plants brought by 16th-century sailors, and in the 17th-century, women were forbidden to enter the forest by the Pope. It is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year

Convento dos Capuchos is probably the less-visited site in Sintra, which is a pity.
This unique convent, built in the 16th century by Franciscan monks, is a mystique place where construction merges with pre-existing natural features and where you can emerge yourself into Sintra’s primitive forest.
The Franciscans would live here in an ambiance of spirituality and contemplation but open to visitors such as pilgrims. You will be surrounded by beauty, simplicity, and calm.

The city of Lisbon has always been closely related to the sea, so when we wander around the oldest city districts, we often see a small tile of stone engraved representing a ship. This image probably means that this was the house of a sailor, or a fisherman, or a shipbuilder.
If the ship has two ravens at each end facing the center, we are looking at Lisbon’s coat of arms.
