Cod has been part of Portuguese cuisine for over 500 years! The fish was introduced to Portugal in the XIV century and quickly became a staple in the Portuguese diet, especially during periods of religious fasting. Over time, codfish began to be preserved through salting, making it easier to transport and store. Today, it is considered a symbol of Portuguese cuisine, featured in countless traditional recipes.
