These rocks, were they placed here for the most somber of rites, to honor the dead? Or maybe they were places of celebration, of love and sorrow and community. What might these rocks have seen!

Have you ever wondered what relics from our time might survive 10,000+ years and how they might be perceived? A shopping complex might become a temple in the eyes of future generations, or a roundabout studied as a burial mound!

Does what we project onto ancient neolithic sites say as much about our society and its values as it might say about the 'truth' of our history?

It’s all just stories.

We have just crossed the river Mondego! The longest river to start and end solely within Portugal, known as the River Sung by Poets.

The Mondego has historically inspired passionate Portuguese Poets and Artists. Melancholic and Romantic, this poetry is intertwined with one of the most Portugueses word: Saudade.

Saudade is a vague and heartfelt longing, nostalgic, and just out of reach. The Mondego is a river of Dreamers, the ideal first stop on our magical journey to the Dolmens.

When researching the tours I was blown away at how accessible the ancient stone structures were and how little information was available at the site.

During the height of the pandemic, new information boards were installed which are easy to read (also in English) and informative.

We are lucky in the Carregal do Sal region to have an active municipality in preserving these time capsules from nearly 6000 years of human existence in the area.

What's in a name?

My name is Ross Norman and I created Out of the Norm tours. It's a catchy name that plays on my surname (see what I did there) I often take credit for coming up with it until being reminded by my good friend Dan Ryder that it was in fact his stroke of, potentially drunken, genius that came up with the name.

This is him standing alongside me to the far right of this picture of what looks like a budget boyband album cover. Thanks for the inspiration Dan and for putting up with me excitedly trying to tell you about new weird stuff I'd found in London.

Litha (the pagan name for the Summer Solstice) celebrates the longest day of the year. The hours of daylight are at their most plentiful and the sun is at its zenith in Northern Europe.

Lugh the Celtic light-bringer god moves through the land on his way to his festival of the corn harvest, Lughnasad on August 1st. He moves in response to our evocation bringing pleasure, passion, and the power of life. Lugh carries the lamp as a magical weapon (or magical tool.) It shines light into any darkness, or symbolically brings the light of consciousness into the darkest unexplored or repressed places in our unconscious minds. His light transmuting trauma and pain into joy and the energy that fills our power.

Lugh was a god celebrated in Celtic Ireland and the Lusitanian people that lived in this region before the Roman invasion of Ancient Portugal that began in 219 BC.

The Summer Solstice this year is on 21st June, 04:32 am, GMT.

This is Matt from Rock and River, based here in Central Portugal. He has been entertaining people for the last 15 with his fantastic company Rock and River. Showing them the natural beauty of the area in one of the coolest ways possible via kayak.

Not only has he been a pioneer in establishing tourism in the area he has been a great support to me in setting up my tours here in the area.

I would thoroughly recommend having a day with Matt on the river. Check out his website www.rockandriver.com.pt

Let me tell you about my amazing Logo,
In Hyde Park, asked a couple of lads for a lighter and we started chatting. They enthusiastically told me about all of the bizarre esoteric symbology of the Royal Albert Memorial they had just seen. They were visiting us all the way from sunny Australia.

I invited them to the London Goddess tour the next day and we had a blast. It felt like a serendipitous meeting and I am happy they enjoyed the tour.

My tours at that time were donation based and Nate Edwards promised a logo design when he returned back to Oz. I was happy with the beer afterwards and it had almost slipped my mind when I received an email with a logo that encapsulated everything the tours mean to me. The light, the dark, and all in between.

Now this wonderful logo is on a t-shirt which I will proudly be wearing this Friday on the next tour.

I remember meeting Celeste, the charming Portuguese lady, that runs the local cafe. I walked in confident that I would win her over with my enthusiasm and desire to create a tour that would bring her extra business.

After 20 minutes of my really bad Portuguese and all that I knew is that she definitely thought I was bonkers and any charming smile or wink I thought might gain me some favour fell flat with no substance of the native language in my back pocket.

Months of Portuguese lessons and tour guests enjoying her amazing local cheese, meats and wool wear later Stopping at Cafe O Cantinha in idyllic Azenha is one of my favourite parts of the tour.

145 years ago Feodor Machnow 'The Russian Giant' was born. famed for his great height he toured the world and became a star.

Giants are a fascination to us and tied deeply into all schools of mythology. there is imprints of them here in Portugal both in folklore and physical.

Come and shake hands with ancestral giants on the next tour
