This morning started with a challenging sighting of a male s***m whale, he was doing mid-water dives, so we only caught glimpses of himโ€ฆ elusive and majestic! His size was definitely impressive!
We were also joined by playful pods of Atlantic spotted dolphins, always full of energy! ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿ’™
The afternoon brought renewed activity. We encountered more s***m whales, this time to the southeast of the island. We were also lucky to see sei whales gracefully traveling through the area. Their smooth surfacing and long bodies were a beautiful contrast to the deeper-diving s***m whales. The Atlantic spotted dolphins made another joyful appearance, adding life and movement to an already dynamic seascape.

๐Ÿ’ก Did you know there is a dimorphism between females and male s***m whales? Male s***m whales are much bigger, with some records up to 18 meters.

A great day on the water with diverse and rewarding encounters! ๐ŸŒŠ

In the morning, we observed a group of S***m whales traveling together, side by side, socializing and performing mid-water dives, offering a rare glimpse into their natural behavior. We also enjoyed the presence of Atlantic spotted dolphins, and a group of Bottlenose dolphins, always impressive to watch in the wild, especially considering they are the species most often seen in captivity. Out here, their natural movements and interactions speak for themselves.

The afternoon brought more S***m whales, along with sightings of Rissoโ€™s dolphins, whose pale, almost white appearance comes from years of social interactions and squid hunts, leaving their skin covered in scars.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun Fact: While Bottlenose dolphins are well known from aquariums and shows, here in the Azores we get to witness them where they belong, free in the open ocean, living in complex social groups and behaving naturally.

Another exciting day on the water here in the Azores! ๐ŸŒŠ Our guests were treated to a wonderful variety of species, each bringing its own kind of magic to todayโ€™s tours.

We started with a group of Rissoโ€™s dolphins, with their pale, scar-covered bodies and slow, graceful movementsโ€”always a mysterious and special sight.

Later, we encountered a lively pod of Atlantic spotted dolphins, which put on quite the show! They were jumping, socializing, and even matingโ€”a full display of their energetic and curious nature. And just as we were fully immersed in the moment, a Sei whale suddenly surfaced nearby, giving us a stunning and unexpected encounter with this sleek ocean giant.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun Fact: Sei whales are among the fastest of the great whales, capable of reaching speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph)! Despite their size, they can appear and vanish with surprising grace.
