📍 MADALENA DO MAR

Or ‘banana village’ 🍌🫶 due to - you guess it - all the banana plantations, which you can find there. There is even a banana walk, an easy loop of 1.9km, which you can follow called; ‘Rota da Banana’ 🥾

In July they celebrate the ‘banana festival’ (Festa da Banana), which is a tribute to one of Madeira’s most important local products 🌴

👩‍🍳 Great restaurants to eat, for example the island’s famous deep ocean fish ‘Espada’ (with banana or without) at Madalena do Mar are:

• Taberna da Madalena
• Casa de Pedra
• Restaurante Moreia

⛱️ Madalena do Mar also has a beautiful, long, but rocky beach. When you do not like the feeling of the stones beneath your feet you can opt for a walk over the pier and climb down the stairs for a swim 😎

🚘 Madalena do Mar is, like the village of Ponta do Sol, only a 10 minute drive away from us 🤗 a great option for romantic (longer) sunset walks! 🥰

📍 PONTA DO SOL

In our opinion; one of the cutest and most picturesque villages in Madeira 🥰📸 the tiny town with the most sun hours and where you can find thé best sunsets; either from the beach or the pier!

Although tiny and squeezed between two cliffs by the sea, Ponta do Sol offers a cozy rocky beach, a supermarket, a bank, a pharmacy, hairdressers, a tiny shopping center and several restaurants, like:

• Steak & Sun
• Caprice
• Sunspot Café
• Sol Poente
• The Old Pharmacy

And all of this, just a 10 minute drive away from our place 🥰 we can’t wait to welcome you here soon!

🪴 Any updates? 👇

When we bought the land, we had the idea that the ball will start rolling, pick up speed and things would quickly move forward... 🙄

However, in reality, some days it feels like nothing is happening and we are making zero progress… 🫣

We would really like to have it all done and finished yesterday, but we are also finding joy in the process of creating and in the background we are taking tiny steps.

Let’s share what we have been up to so far since we bought the land:

✅ There has been a lot of e-mail correspondence with the company that will build the houses.
✅ We have been choosing the colours for the interior design of the cabins.
✅ Getting inspiration for kitchens, floor and decor (online & offline).
✅ Getting ideas on what we want our garden to look like.
✅ Learning more and more about interior design.
✅ Talking with our architects.
✅ Building the website and page.
✅ Meeting the electricity company to move some posts

Besides that we are getting more clear each day on WHY we want to pursue this project and we love to spend time day dreaming and visualising how we want every aspect to look like 🥰 also realising that part of this lifestyle we are pursuing already has elements that we can implement right now in our day to day as it is 🤗

So when you ask us ‘how is the project going?’ our reply will often be something like; ‘slow, but steady.’ And we find that that is ok too 😊

📍Bar Mestre Paulo, São Jorge. An authentic tiny cabin from Madeira island 🥰You can find this cute little place on your way to PR18 - Levada do Rei. So make sure to have time for a pitstop! The building resembles the ‘Casas de Colmo’, Santana’s traditional houses. The inside is simple; with a bar where you can try the local ‘poncha’, a coffee and some snacks ☕️Outside you find a football table to play a game and some picknick tables to enjoy a ‘gelado’ 🍦 (like we did 😜) together with the incredible mountain view 😍 I asked the girl in the bar if it was ok to take some shots 📸 as in my opinion it is definitely a place worth visiting!
