Visit the historic towns of Barcelos, Ponte de Lima and Braga or Viana do Castelo in Northern Portugal

We begin our daytrip from Porto or Greater Porto Our first stop is the town of Barcelos, well known for its tale of the rooster and the ceramics. Barcelos is located on the pilgrimage way of St James. In this town you may opt to see the Pottery and Ceramics inthe tourist information office and/or the Pottery Museum, There is also a museum of arqueology and the Gardens of Barrocos. Our next stop is the enchanting vila of Ponte de Lima, named after the Roman bridge over the Lima River. Legend has it that the roman soldiers were so enchanted by the beauty of this place that they refused to cross the river. The town is known for its gastronomy. While here you may visit the Tematic gardens on the other side of the river, the Museu dos Terceiros and the local Parish Church. Ponte de lima is known as Portugal's most floral town. The International Garden Festival is held here between May and October. Our last stop on our way back to Porto is either Viana do Castelo or braga ,. In Viana do castelo we have the option to visit the harbour the costume museum, the celtic settlements and the santa Luzia basilica atop the hilltop overlooking the city and the surrounding region. Braga is known to be a religiious centre. where you can visit the Braga cathedral, the town centre , the Biscainhos museum (if time permits) and the Bom Jesus Basilica

Discover the Douro wine valley firsthand in all it's beauty, with options to visit the Douro museum, visit a local vineyard with with wine tasting (own expense) and take a boat cruise (own expense)

We leave Porto by around 9 am ( I am flexible about the departure time) using the motorway for most of the way which passes partly through the scenic Vinho Verde wine growing region of northern Portugal and the longest Tunnel of the country up in the mountains of marāo. Upon reaching the Douro valley, our first stop is a local vineyard where you have the option of a guided tour along with wine tasting (own expense). If you wish to visit one more vineyard or have any particular preference with regard to visit, please let me know so that the required reservations could be done in advance. At this time, you can take break to purchase lunch in one of the restaurants in Pinhāo. Our next possible option is a 2-hour boat cruise (own expense) on the Douro river from Pinhāo to Tua and back on a traditional rabelo boat. Leaves pinhāo at 14.30. On your return we proceed to Peso da Regua, where you could visit the Douro museum (own expense), the town and the old railway station where an old steam train still runs. Conclude your day trip and begin the trip back to Porto

Discover the Estrela Mountains on a day trip from Porto. Visit the highest point of mainland Portugal, take in the views of the Covão dos Conchos spillway, and explore the town of Seia and Piodão

Embark on a day trip from Porto to the Torre plateau, the highest point in mainland Portugal. Depart from Porto and head to the Torre plateau, the highest point in the central massif of the Estrela Mountains. Admire the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape from the viewpoint of Miradoura da Varandah das Carqueijas. Continue to the viewpoint of Miradouro de Vale glacier and take in the views of the glacial valleys carved by ancient ice. Stop in Seia, a lovely town in the northwest of the Estrela ranges. Visit the bread museum or buy local products such as the famous local cheese or the wines, the medronho brandy, and the mountain gin. After the break, move on to the Covao dos Conchas, an artificial lake that is famous for its bell-mouth spillway. Next, visit the viewpoint of Miradouro da Rocha at the tip of a long valley. Finally, visit Piodão, a hidden jewel.

Discover enchanting Guimarāes, famed for it's medieval buildings and lively squares. It's also the birthplace of the the first Portuguese King. From there we move on to Braga, a city of enormous beauty and rich heritage, which combines tradition with innovation, memory with youth, creativity with conservatism.

Daytrip to Aveiro, Costa Nova and Senhor da Pedra

We leave Porto for Aveiro also known as the Venice of Portugal. Aveiro is a city on the west coast of Portugal set along a lagoon called Ria de Aveiro. It's distinguished by its canals navigated by colorful boats (barcos moliceiros), traditionally used to harvest seaweed. Not far from its core, known for art nouveau buildings, is the Cathedral of Aveiro, with its prominent bell tower. The Museu de Aveiro, housed in a former convent, has a lavish tomb made of marble. You can use this stopover for a lunch break or to visit the cathedral and museum or to go for a boat ride in the canals of aveiro
From there we depart to discover Costa Nova de Prada with it's cute striped houses close to Aveiro. The tallest (62m) lighthouse in Portugal and the second biggest in Europe is located nearby in the locality of Barra. You may also opt to visit the vista alegre museum and the naval museum here
Our last stop is at Senhora da Pedra beach where the chapel of Senhor da Pedra is located . On a clear cloudless day, we get to see the sunset if in time for it before returning back to Porto

We leave Porto and travel via afurada (the fisherman's village in Gaia) on the scenic coastal road until we stop at Senhora da Pedra beach where the chapel is located. Senhora da Pedra is part of the town of Miramar

A cidade do Porto conseguiu obter 88,85 pontos numa escala de 0 a 100, sendo que uma das caraterísticas que chamou mais a atenção foi a gastronomia tradicional. A revista norte-americana refere-se ainda à Invicta como "uma cidade muito amada, a cerca de duas horas de carro da região vinícola do Vale do Douro", com os leitores a realçarem outros pontos fortes como um centro histórico "onde se pode caminhar", os "cafés românticos" e a "vida noturna".
