PORTO (Portugal): Main altar of the Clérigos church.

The spacious main chapel, with an oblong rectangular shape (longer than wide), is embellished with a marble altar and a rococo-inspired altarpiece, with a design by Manuel dos Santos Porto, in which a throne crowned by the image of the patron saint, Our Lady, predominates. Lady of the Assumption. On the sides of the altarpiece, the co-patron saints of the Brotherhood of Clérigos, São Pedro ad Vincula and São Filipe Néri, stand out, two painted wooden sculptures.

"Bananeiro" is one of the traditions most followed by the people of Braga, celebrated right in the street, hours before Christmas dinner. The roots of this tradition began more than thirty years ago in the Casa das Bananas store, on the famous Rua do Souto.

This custom, initially of a “family” nature, was a moment of conviviality, for a restricted group of friends and customers, where they drank muscat wine and ate a banana, offered by the store owner to comfort the stomach. But over time, this small get-together, year after year, gained strength and suddenly became a meeting point for all Braga residents on Christmas Eve.

On the afternoon of December 24th, the street is flooded with thousands of people to fulfill the ritual, drink a glass of Setúbal muscat and eat a banana.
