🌄✨ Discover the Magic of Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga! ✨🌄

The Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte is an iconic site in Braga, Portugal. Located in the parish of Tenões, this Catholic sanctuary is famous for its Baroque architecture and stunning landscape. The sanctuary comprises a church, a monumental stairway with the Via Sacra, a park, and a funicular.

Here are some interesting points about Bom Jesus do Monte:

History: The occupation of this site dates back to the early 14th century when a cross was erected on top of Monte Espinho. In 1722, Archbishop D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles initiated a major project that resulted in the current sanctuary.

Via Sacra: The sanctuary is known for its Via Sacra, which consists of a series of chapels along a stairway that represent the Passion of Christ. Each chapel depicts different moments from the life of Christ, such as the crucifixion and resurrection.

Stairway of the Five Senses: One of the highlights of the sanctuary is the Stairway of the Five Senses, where each step is associated with one of the human senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch).

World Heritage: In 2019, the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its cultural and historical importance.

Nazaré is a Portuguese town and municipality located in the Oeste region, in the historical province of Estremadura, and in the Leiria District. The municipality has a population of 14,889 in an area of 82.43 km2, while the town itself has around 10,000 inhabitants.

It is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the Silver Coast (Costa de Prata).

The town of Nazaré consists of three neighbourhoods: Praia (along the beach), Sítio (an old village, on top of a cliff) and Pederneira (another old village, on a hilltop). Praia and Sítio are linked by the Nazaré Funicular, a funicular railway.
The present mayor is Walter Chicharro, a member of the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is on 8 September, as part of the Our Lady Of Nazaré Festival, a ten-day religious and secular celebration with processions, bullfights, fireworks, folk dancing and a fair.

"Sandeman is a brand of Port and Sherry wines founded in 1790. Its well known logo features a caped man known as "The Don" dressed in a Portuguese student's cape and a wide traditional Andalusian type hat. Besides Port and Sherry wines, it also produces Brandy and Madeira wine.

Brothers George and David Sandeman from Perth founded the company in 1790 with £300. David left the company in 1798 to found the Commercial Bank of Scotland leaving George in sole charge.

In 1953, Sandeman bought the port company Robertson Brothers.

Initially passed to his nephew, George Glas Sandeman, Sandeman remained a family business until bought out by the drinks company Seagram in 1979. In 2001 the operation was sold to Sogrape by Diageo and Pernod Ricard who had acquired it from Seagram. A descendant, George Thomas David Sandeman is a member of the board of Sogrape Vinhos S.A."
