IT’S FRIDAY & IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR…
After another week working hard here we are more than ready to get this weekend started and where better place than the Xmas fair and market in Funchal
Funchal is the capital of Madeira and around a 20 minute drive from us
It’s a beautiful buzzing city that I love to explore any time of the year but for me, it feels even more magical now
Strolling through all the food and drink huts while gazing at the pretty lights and decorations, combined with the smell of roasting chestnuts (castanhas)👌😍
Obviously a stop at the fair is a must!
The ferris wheel 🎡 provides stunning views and if you’re a big kid like me… it’s all just lots of fun!

TIME FOR A PROJECT UPDATE…
Despite having friends a family visiting for a few weeks has been in full swing! We’ve had lots going on and it’s really starting to come together!
What’s been happening:
- Works to the new entrance stairs is nearly complete
- Shower bases and wall tiles in the bathrooms are nearly complete
- All external restored doors are in place and looking amazing
- All kitchens are in
- Internal painting is well underway
- My stunning external lights for the houses are on
- All new aluminium windows and doors are in
- So pleased with my internal shutters that have started to arrive on site
- Plus we even have some light fixtures going up

It hasn’t always been a building site and there were actually times we got to stay and use
Amazing times if I do say so myself!
As I get closer to opening and being able to share this beautiful place with you all, I can’t help but look back to the magical moments we’ve already had here and want to share a few…

GOOD MUISC, GOOD VIBES & STUNNING SCENERY…
Madeira really does have it all and last Sunday definitely delivered!
What a beautiful experience it was… high above Santana soaking in the stunning surroundings while we danced the day away to 3 very talented DJ’s with an amazing group of people 💃🏼💃🏼
(yes, I am lurking in one of the pictures 🤣)
Although Madeira is highly renowned for its incredible nature activities, it has a lot more to offer than that!

THE WORK CONTINUES…
With the project finally getting closer to the exciting part (for me 😁) we are starting to see things I have chosen/designed go into the houses and I am buzzing for this next stage where I get to see all of it come together!
Here’s where we are at:
- Floor tiles are going down in every house (and what an amazing job he is doing - definitely not an easy task in these old palheiros)
- Aluminium gutters on each house (this was fascinating to watch them make everything to measure straight out the back of their van)
- New stairs in our top house
- New safer main entrance stairs from the carpark
- Visit to the carpenters to see how all of our beautiful new wood plus our old items in for restoration are looking
- Adding light and power to the BBQ area

AND THEN…
Another week is nearly over but the project and hardwork continues:
- All conduits in, covered and wired
- Underfloor heating laid in each house (yes you heard correctly 😉)
- New concrete floors laid
- All ceilings and walls insulated and plasterboarded
- All taping and jointing completed
- All palm trees pruned (and looking rather naked)
- Works completed to divert underground spring we found and protect our top house
- All windows and doors straightened ready for new sills

BEAUTIFUL BLACK SAND BEACH IN SEIXAL…
With so many stunning places to visit in Madeira it’s hard to pick a favourite but for me the stunning stretch of black sand in Seixal with its mountainous backdrop featuring ridges and even waterfalls overlooking the beach is not one to miss!
It’s such a unique place and only a 30 minute drive from
The drive itself is right through the middle of the island so you get to take in all of the stunning scenery on your journey!

FIRST THINGS FIRST…
So every project has to start somewhere and with a big list ahead of us we got cracking:
- new roofs & repairs
- the tool shed had to become a technical room
- trenches throughout for all new plumbing
- 2 new water tanks
- old walls down
- new walls up
- all floors up
- new stairs
- and every building gutted
