A message from Allen, the owner of I, Like You, Tours:
Greetings from Madrid. Portugal, Spain and Morocco are in varying phases of easing the restrictions on movement due to Coronavirus. I am eager to resume sharing these places with travelers, but safety is our number one consideration. I hope to be able to have groups in the autumn, but it remains to be seen if this will be possible to do safely. As a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa, my friends and neighbors there were Black. I met people of remarkable intelligence, humor and perseverence, whose opportunities in life were limited due to their circumstances. While they did not suffer racism in their own country, as a White male, I try to be aware of my own privilege and I support the goals of Black Lives Matter. On our trips to Morocco, we address the issues of racism, Islamophobia and xenophobia. We endeavor to bring people together to have authentic conversations about things that matter. Where there is better understanding, there is less fear. Where there is less fear, there is less violence. My hope is that in working on our current challenges, we can become better human beings, not only in how we relate to each other, but in how we relate to the Earth and the Natural systems which support us.
