5 curiosities about the Pena Palace (Portugal).

1- A monument to be admired from anywhere in the park.

Installed at the top of the Serra de Sintra, the Palace was built to be observed from any point in the park, forest and gardens that surround it.

2- It has more than 2,000 species of trees from all four corners of the world.

3-The Pena Palace is made up of two different wings: the old convent area (red), and a newer area (yellow).

4- It was the first romantic palace in Europe.
It is one of the best expressions of 19th century Romanticism in the world, considering that it was the first romantic palace in Europe.

5- Cultural Landscape-World Heritage Site
In 1995, UNESCO classified the mountains and the historic town of Sintra as a Cultural Landscape - World Heritage of Humanity, the first application of this category throughout Europe.

Eating roasted chestnuts in Portugal is like their cool, centuries-old tradition. It's all about Saint Martin, who shared his cloak with a dude in need during a storm.
As a thank-you, the weather got awesome, and chestnuts became the go-to celebration snack on November 11th.
When fall hits, street vendors set up shop, roasting chestnuts and making the whole place smell amazing.

It's not just a Saint Martin thing – chestnuts also get in on the Christmas festivities and show up in some classic dishes.
Basically, roasted chestnuts are the rockstars of Portuguese food traditions, bringing good vibes and tasty treats to the table.

Comer castanhas assadas em Portugal é como uma tradição secular e fresca. É tudo sobre São Martinho, que compartilhou sua capa com um cara necessitado durante uma tempestade.
Como forma de agradecimento, o tempo melhorou e as castanhas se tornaram o lanche preferido da comemoração do dia 11 de novembro.
Quando chega o outono, os vendedores ambulantes instalam-se, assando castanhas e deixando todo o lugar com um cheiro incrível.

Não é só coisa de São Martinho – as castanhas também entram nas festas de Natal e aparecem em alguns pratos clássicos.
Basicamente, as castanhas assadas são as estrelas das tradições gastronómicas portuguesas, trazendo boas energias e guloseimas saborosas à mesa.

The most charming way to reach the coast of Sintra, directly from Estefånia (near the historic centre).

The foundation of this section for the Tram dates back to 1902. The connection was interrupted a few times, especially with the proliferation of cars since the 1950s.

But against all the adversities, today the enchanted Tram works perfectly, being one of the ex-libris of Sintra!
