Dia da Europa 🇪🇺

Na mitologia grega, Europa era uma princesa fenícia que foi raptada por Zeus, disfarçado de touro, e levada para a ilha de Creta.

Na Escadaria dos Cardeais (junto à Capela de Santo António) encontram-se os azulejos mais antigos do Mosteiro (c. 1690).

Neles estão representados cavaleiros, figuras populares, um bispo, ermitas, misturados com temas mitológicos como por exemplo o Rapto da Europa, que pode ser observado na fotografia.

In Greek mythology, Europa was a Phoenician princess who was kidnapped by Zeus, disguised as a bull, and taken to the island of Crete.

In the Staircase of the Cardinals (next to the Chapel of Saint Anthony) we find the oldest glazed tiles of the Monastery (c. 1690).

In them are represented knights, popular figures, a bishop, hermits, mixed with mythological themes such as The Abduction of Europa, which can be observed in the photograph.
