The Quinta de São Pedro is a private natural reserve offering accomodation (self catering or bed & breakfast) from single, double, triple bedrooms up to dormitories for large groups up to 60 persons. was founded in 2012 and is continuing the Study Centre which was established in 1960 to provide facilities for visiting scientists wishing to carry out their own field-work, and for students studying

natural sciences. At the heart of the complex lie the modern farmhouse and working buildings around a central square. This private natural reserve also offers families and other private guests a perfect environment for unforgettable holidays.

A poor friar, who was on a pilgrimage, arrived at a house. Too proud to simply ask for food, he asked the homeowners to lend him a pot so he could prepare a soup – made from a stone... He took a smooth, well-washed stone from his pouch. The homeowners, curious, immediately let the friar into the kitchen and gave him the pot. The friar placed the pot over the fire with only the stone, but soon said that the soup needed seasoning... The lady of the house gave him salt, but he suggested it would be better with a bit of sausage or bacon. So, the fat was added to the stone. Then, the friar asked if they had anything to thicken the soup, like potatoes or beans left over from the previous meal... And so the "stone" soup thickened. Carrots were added, along with the meat that had been with the beans, and, of course, the result was an excellent soup. They ate the soup together, and in the end, the friar carefully removed the stone from the pot, washed it, and put it back in his pouch... for the next soup!
