The house of the little donkey (Casa do Burrinho) is set in a beautiful hill village of fourteen or so houses. All of the houses have a spectacular setting and magnificent views over the Algarve coast in southern portugal. Some of the houses in the area are still owned by local Portuguese families who farm the hillsides. They still use donkeys and ancient farm implements as they have for generatio
ns, hence the village is almost untouched by the 21st Century. This makes it a very peaceful and picturesque place to relax and enjoy. The house is in its own grounds of approximately half of an acre. As the property is on a hillside 1300 ft above sea level it is completely secluded. It's typical of the local Algarve houses and barns, having originally been built many years ago. It has now been completely modernised to a high standard but we've kept alot of its original features such as the bread oven. Around the back of the house is our large 35ft long, 8ft deep swimming pool. This is ideal for cooling yourself down on those hot summer days. It's heated using solar energy and is serviced by our pool man as necessary. The villa boasts 1 double room, 2 twin rooms and a lounge that could be used as a sleeping area if needed. There are 3 bathrooms 1 situated next to each bedroom. There is a fully equiped kitchen with everything you would expect from a modern kitchen including Dishwaser and washing machine. Next to the kitchen there is a dining area for those cooler nights. On the more regular warmer nights there is a covered dining area and BBQ area by the pool for al fresco dining. Surprisingly for somewhere so secluded there are numerous small bars and successful restaurants serving traditional and international menus, within a very short drive. The larger picturesque town of Tavira is a 35 to 40 minute drive away along with some of the best beaches in the Algarve. A large Supermarket is a 15 to 20 min drive away in Sao Bras with the smaller village of Santa Catarina close by which has smaller shops such as a Bakery, Chemist and convenience store.
