The stunning sacristy roof in the Convent of Christ in Tomar. Built by King Filipe I of Portugal at the end of the 16th century. Filipe was also Filipe II of Spain. The four central panels depict the coat of arms of Portugal and Castile & Aragon at either end. Between them is the 'Filipine Cross' of the Order of Christ and the depiction of an Armillary sphere. The Armillary sphere was an Astronomical instrument used as a device for navigation during the period known as the 'Age of Discoveries'.
