Our Story
It all started with a road trip from Porto to Guinea Bissau. Gilberto Ramos took his every day car to discover a place called “Dulombi” - a tiny village in the middle of the jungle he only knew from stories told by his dad Fernando.
Gil reached his destination, surprised the place still existed and started talking to people.
He learned about certain needs the small population had and started a little project called “Missaõ Dulombi”. His trip became a yearly routine in more and bigger vehicles carrying donations and volunteers to support the medical- and school facilities there.
Through the years Gil established the idea of a rally taking the same route he did so many times. He thought of it as an additional income to support the humanitarian cause.
It took years of preparation before the first episode launched in April 2017. Back then the adventure was running under the name “Ibero African Rallye” until a rebranding campaign in 2018 performed by a team of German design students, after participating as the rally’s documentation team.
Now the project is called “Wild Ass Rally” according to its symbol - the donkey - as all its characteristics just suit the rally’s spirit so well. We are most reliable road companions traveling for the sake of it and we stubbornly reach our destination by all means.
