This was certainly one of the more eventful mornings in Torres del Paine. The wind was howling and I was dressed in all my insulating layers and ready for sunrise. I made my way to one of the little peninsulas that jut into Lago Pehoe to these two branches which I really liked. Upon unpacking I realized that my lens cloths were on my bedside table. I had forgotten them there after cleaning everything the previous night. Despite being about 10 meters from the lake edge, the lens was being sprayed with water so unless I came up with a solution I wouldn't be able to capture sunrise. There definitely wasn't enough time to get back to the hotel and the only piece of clothing I was wearing that was soft enough to wipe the element of a $2000 lens with was my underwear. I hesitated for a second before I started untying my shoelaces. First the boots, then the hiking pants, then the thermal underwear pants and finally the new 'lens cloth'. After a brief moment of getting my bum chilled I got everything back on, tore my briefs into a few lens cloths and cleaned the lens just before the light hit.
After that morning I double checked that my lens cloths were always packed!
