“As long as we read books, we stand a chance at salvation. We will not sink back into the primal wilderness from which we emerged, nor will we become lost in the artificial wilderness toward which we are heading—one that is robotic, pseudo-human.
As long as we have the books written by those who came before us, we have a memory, we have a past, and we hold the "memories of the future." We are immortal.
And we hold the vaccine against ignorance, malice, cruelty, and forgetfulness, a safeguard against the great plagues of history.
As long as we have books and feel the need to read them, we remain human in the truest sense. We have the power to save each other.
