𝟏. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐛 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝟏𝟒 𝐄𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭-𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬
Reinhold Messner was the first person to climb all 14 of the world’s peaks over 8,000 meters (26,247 feet) without supplemental oxygen, a feat completed in 1986.

𝟐. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐱𝐲𝐠𝐞𝐧
In 1978, along with Peter Habeler, Messner achieved the first ascent of Mount Everest without using supplemental oxygen, proving it was possible to survive at such altitudes unaided.

𝟑. 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐨 𝐀𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭
In 1980, Messner became the first person to make a solo ascent of Mount Everest, without oxygen, via a new route on the north side of the mountain.

𝟒. 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭
Messner also proved his endurance off the mountains by crossing Antarctica and Greenland on foot, without motorized support, showcasing his versatility as an adventurer.

Messner championed "alpine style" climbing, which involves minimal equipment, no fixed ropes, and self-reliance, contrasting with the heavily equipped "expedition style."

𝟔. 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐞𝐭𝐢 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬
Messner has spent years researching the Yeti myth and even published a book, My Quest for the Yeti, where he presents evidence that the legendary creature is likely a Himalayan bear.

𝟕. 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦
Messner established a series of six museums in South Tyrol, Italy, dedicated to the history, culture, and art of mountaineering, as well as the relationship between humans and mountains.
