Yesterday a group of 12 started a 4 days biking trip through the rolling hills and German Saxon villages of Transylvania. Starting in Bazna, Biertan, Sighișoara, Crit, Viscri and many places in between.

32 days is the longest tour we ever organised and it just finished a few days ago.
It started with traditional Christmas in Maramures region in northern Romania, painted monasteries in Bucovina, bear dance festival, NY in Sibiu, castles and medieval towns, Bucharest and then it continued into Bulgaria with the Kukeri tradition (masked people), Sofia, the oldest city in Europe - Plovdiv and an engagement ceremony in a muslim community in the Rhodope mountains.
The even more interesting part is that these 32 days are part of a 5 months around the world tour which already included Germany, Switzerland and Bosnia. Next is Sri Lanka, then the Philippines for snorkeling, Vanuatu, cherry blossom in Japan, South Korea, Hawaii and finally back to the Americas.

Romania is among CNN's 25 places to visit in 2025.
"​​There aren’t many places left in Europe that still have that undiscovered vibe, but Romania comes close. That’s a gift in these days of overtourism — for here’s a country that has everything, from the beach resorts of the Black Sea to the drop-dead gorgeousness of the Carpathian Mountains, and is reputedly trying to grow visitor numbers sustainably.

Yes, there’s the Dracula thing at Bran Castle, but for other gothic medieval treats in wider Transylvania and beyond, try Timișoara, Cluj Napoca, Sibiu, Brasov and Sebes. Capital Bucharest has a charming Old Town, now a bit overloaded with tourist bars and restaurants, but the city’s recent history is still a major draw. The jaw-dropping excess of communist-era dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu’s luxurious former home and his vast Palace of the Parliament (the world’s heaviest building) are worth exploring.

They contrast with the extreme hardships he forced on the country’s people, charted in the diminutive but essential Museum of Communism. A more idyllic past can still be found in the Romanian countryside. There’s probably no better way to explore this than the recently launched Via Transilvanica, an 870-mile (1,400-kilometer) hiking trail through rural landscapes and villages seemingly frozen in time."

Ho! Ho! ... Ho?

It's still a long time until Christmas but in about 5 weeks time the first Christmas market will open in Romania in Sibiu. So we've put together a tour which includes 3 of the most interesting Christmas markets and also included other places which look really interesting in winter (like castles and the steam train).

According to an article in Romanian media, the country had the lowest % of foreign tourists booking accommodation among EU countries.
Would that make Romania the least touristy country in the EU? I guess so :)

A group of 6 Germans are arriving tomorrow for a tour focused on nature.
2 of them are coming by train from near Stuttgart and it takes them more than 24h to get to Bucharest (instead of the 3h flight).
Why? Because they want to travel green which we encourage.
