Fact Friday 😎
Did you know that the city of Alba Iulia or Apulum, as the Romans called it is one of the few cities in Ronania that goes back all the way to the Roman Empire? Even among the handful that do, the city of Alba Iulia manages to stand out in more than one way. And one of the attractions that can indeed be traced back to more than 2000 years ago are the Roman ruins.

Fact Friday on a Saturday 😂
Did you know that in the yards of Maramures's locals you can see a tree whose branches are adorned with pots? The elders say that when the pot on top of the tree is red, it means that there is a girl in that family who wants to marry. After she gets married, a pot of a different color is placed on top of the tree. The number of pots hints to the wealth of the family and their willingness to receive suitors.

Fact Friday 😎
Did you know that German merchants arrived in Transylvania in the 12th century to help defend the region against the Tatars and Turks? Over the next few centuries, they built seven fortress towns, known as the Siebenbürgen, and hundreds of fortified churches. Must-see spots include the pastel-hued city of Sighișoara and the churches of Biertan and Viscri, all Unesco World Heritage Sites.

Fact Friday 😎
Did you know that traditional crafts like loom weaving were once considered a full time occupation in Romanian villages?Things have rapidly changed over the years though. After the fall of Communism, part of the rural population have migrated into the urban areas and outside the country. Others have stopped weaving for different reasons and hardly any young people are learning anymore. There are only a few women who master the traditional textile weaving artform.

Fact Friday 😎
Did you know that the English word salary was derived from the Latin salarium, to the time when Roman soldiers were paid in salt for their service? Salt was a highly-prized and sought-after commodity due to its ability to preserve food and was, in part, also responsible for the development of civilization. Fact Friday. 🤯
Did you know the Saxons had a particular way of dealing with couples who were considering divorce? The community locked both of them in a very small room with a single bed, a single plate, one piece of bread, one cup of water and they had to share everything for two weeks. Apparently this system worked because they only had one divorce in 300 years!

Our story

The idea of organizing day tours in Transylvania came from the desire to create a new image of Romania.

I travelled a lot and lived in multicultural countries for a while and this experience helped me better understand the image Romania has abroad, and that people’s opinions on it are quite split.

When I was away from Transylvania, I realized how attracted I am to the places where I was born and how I missed my homeland’s values and beauties.
