NIKULIN CIRCUS
The Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard is one of the most grandiose historical constructions of the modern century, which was erected as far back as the end of the 19th century and continues to thrive to this day.

This is an amazing place for spectacular performances, where outstanding people and skilled craftsmen from all over Russia gathered: artists, equilibrists, trainers, jugglers, kings of laughter, clowns and many other talented talents!

Fascinatingly well-coordinated work of circus artists, like a beautiful song, captivates the audience, inspiring a sense of respect for human labor. After the circus performance they take with them a sense of joy, faith in the strength of man, in his boundless possibilities.

The Great Lent started for all Orthodox Christians on Sunday, March, 1 - seven weeks before Easter.

Religious Russians abstain from certain foods (meat, fish, eggs) and alcohol during these 40 days.

Different porridges are among the most popular dishes, while buckwheat is probably the most favoured one!

You can take it both sweet (with honey, maple syrup, raisins or brown sugar) and salty - with dried pumpkin seeds, mushrooms, fried onions or just sea salt.

Bon appetite!

Pavlovsk is the youngest of the grand Imperial estates around St. Petersburg.

Less visited than better known Pushkin to the east, Pavlovsk is nevertheless home to a stunning 18th-century royal palace and one of the finest green spaces in greater St Petersburg.

It's well worth tacking on a visit here to explore the artfully designed interiors – and a small but first-rate collection of old-world masterpieces – followed by a stroll amid the verdure of Pavlovsk park.

Russian Maslenitsa
Perhaps the most cheerful holiday in Russia is the Pancake week (Maslenisa). The history of this holiday goes back to pre-Christian times, when the Slavs were pagans.

It's fun and entertaining holiday especially when people start to make Blini (Russian for pancakes) as it's round, yellow and hot as the sun. Horse sleigh riding will be everywhere, and mothers-in-law chatting or gossiping :)

The rituals of Maslenitsa are very simple and interesting because they combine the end of the winter holiday rituals and the opening of new spring festivals and ceremonies, which were to promote a rich harvest.

Maslenitsa is celebrated during the week preceding the Lent. Every day of Maslenitsa was devoted to special rituals. And finishes on the "Forgiveness Sunday".

On that day people ask each other for forgiveness for all grievances and mistakes.
On the last day of Maslenitsa, the most interesting event comes – saying goodbye to Maslenitsa - a solemn burning of the stuffed figure of winter.

People threw the remnants of pancakes and food to the huge bonfire explaining to their children that all the nourishing food disappeared in the fire to prepare them for the Great Lent.

THE GOLDEN RING
Russia doesn’t end in Moscow.

The 'Golden Ring' (Zolotoe Koltso) is a modern name for a loop of very old towns north-east of Moscow.

The towns' churches, monasteries, kremlins (city forts) and museums make an incredibly picturesque portfolio of early Russian craftwork.

Another attraction of the region is that some of the towns are really little more than villages, providing a peaceful glimpse of country life as it is lived all over European Russia.

You do run the risk of 'old Russian church' overload here, so it pays to travel selectively. The most visited places are Sergiev Posad and Suzdal, but Vladimir and Bogolyubovo, Plyos, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Rostov - Veliky and Pereslavl-Zaiessky, in their different ways, all have big attractions too.

Russian pancakes are on the list of the most popular dishes of Russian origin. They're famous all over the world.🌮

And starting next Monday, February, 24, Russian people will eat pancakes almost every day for the whole week!
You ask why?😀

Because Maslenitsa or Pancake week starts on Monday!❗
Maslenitsa is a jolly and beautiful Russian holiday. This celebration lasts for a week. Sometimes we call it the "Pancake week" because at this time everyone has to cook and eat pancakes.

Why precisely pancakes? Because pancakes are round and yellow, just like the sun! On this holiday Russians are happy about the sun and spring and see off the long winter.

Come and join us in the celebration! 🙏

Have you ever rode a real tank?
In Moscow, it's actually possible. More precisely, not in the capital itself, but in the Moscow region, where there is a real non-military Tank racing track.

Men come here to feel the real power of the legendary combat vehicles and get an adrenaline rush under the roar of tank engines.

Here you can not only shoot from an AK-47 assault rifle but also try to control military equipment and even arrange a crash test by crushing a car with a tank.

And if you are a history lover, then it will certainly be interesting for you to ride a technique from the II World War.

On the T-34 tank, Soviet soldiers drove into Berlin. You will not only see this formidable fighting vehicle with your own eyes, but you will also be able to try yourself in the place of a driver or gunner ... Feel yourself a real tanker!

You can also hold, assemble and disassemble the most famous models of small arms of the Red Army and the Wehrmacht.

During a trip to the tank racing track, you will have the opportunity to touch this legendary tank, plunge into the atmosphere of real military events, pass a real test of strength by controlling a powerful combat vehicle.

A tank tour is available for purchase at Mos-Tour.

DID YOU KNOW?❓
Did you know that Moscow is home to the 200-tonne Tsar Bell, the largest bell in the world?

It took 3 attempts to make the 200-tonne Tsar Bell:

1️⃣ The first version weighed in at 18 tonnes and needed the strength of 24 men just to ring it. But the bell broke into pieces after it crashed to the ground when a fire blazed through the Moscow Kremlin’s wooden bell tower.

2️⃣ The same thing happened to the second bell, which was even bigger than the last.

3️⃣ A 10-meter-deep pit was dug out near the Kremlin to cast it. But while it was being constructed, another fire ripped through the structure that supported the gigantic bell, and nobody could find a way to get it out for almost 40 years.

Eventually, they got it out, but to this day, no one really knows how it sounds as it has never been rung.

You can see the Tsar Bell, as well as other most attractive sightseeing in Moscow, during our 5 days trip "Taste of Moscow".

✅ Moscow historical center and major monuments: Tverskaya Street, Vorobyovy Hills, Victory Park, Novodevichy Convent, the White House, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Parliament Building (Duma), Bolshoi Theatre, and the formidable headquarters of the KGB at Lubyanka.

✅ Moscow Kremlin grounds and cathedrals.

✅ Red Square and the vicinity: Lenin’s mausoleum, GUM Trading Rows, St.Basil’s Cathedral (exterior)

In 1917, as the main training ship of the Baltic fleet, the Aurora took an active part in the Revolution.

On the night of October 25-26 1917, it fired a blank shot at the Winter Palace (then the residence of the Provisional Government), giving the signal to the rebellious workers, soldiers and sailors of the city to storm the palace.

That moment triggered a dramatic episode in Russia's history and was the start of over 70 years of Communist leadership.

The Aurora is now maintained by cadets from the nearby Nakhimov Navy School. And any tourist can visit it.

Hunt for the Northern lights - Aurora (Murmansk and Kola Peninsula).

Do you know that huskies are born to run?

When the semi-nomadic Chukchi people of Siberia had to expand their hunting grounds some 3000 years ago, they sought to breed the ideal sled dog.

🐶 These dogs had to have endurance, a high tolerance to cold, and the ability to survive on very little food. The resulting pups could carry loads over long distances without food or warmth. While there is controversy as to how pure the lineage is, Siberian huskies are widely believed to be the closest to the original Chukchi dogs.

If you want to know more about huskies and moreover to see the Aurora, join us in our tour to Murmansk - Hunt for the Northern lights.

In the tour program:

✅ Trip to the coast of Artic Ocean, the settlement of Teriberka, looking out over the never-freezing Barents Sea.

The Kremlin and the Cathedrals
You will discover the interior of the Kremlin - the former residence of the Tsars and now the residence of the Russian president, and the fascinating collection of the Armory Chamber.

Several magnificently preserved historic cathedrals and churches stand within the Kremlin walls. Constructed at different times, by master craftsmen of the age, under varying historical circumstances, these magnificent churches have background stories that are at least as interesting as the monuments themselves.

Each of these churches played a vital role in the history of the Orthodox Church, and of the Russian state itself.

Black caviar is one of the most coveted souvenirs among guests to Russia.
You can find dozens of different caviars in stores; they differ by taste, size, color and the “fish of origin”.

When in Russia, you might be tempted to get the expensive black caviar that comes from beluga, ossetra or sturgeon; however, the red salmon caviar is also a wonderful option.

Try it on a crepe with sour cream, as Russians like to, or go for a more simplistic option and have it with bread and butter.

Winter in Russia ❄️
There is an established stereotype among foreigners that Russia is a country of eternal frost and snow-covered streets where bears roam.

This is all because for many years foreigners were frightened by the phrase "Russian winter". Many recall Napoleon's army, which did not last the harsh cold in the year of 1812.😀

But it's not all that simple, Russia is a vast country and the weather in different areas can be completely different.

For example - the coldest inhabited place on Earth is located in Oymyakon, a tiny village in Yakutia, Russian Far East with population of slightly above 500. The lowest temperature registered there was −71.2 °C (−96.2 °F) in 1924. The average year temperature in Oymakon is about -15.5 °C.❗

But the warmest city of Russia is Sochi (where the winter Olympic games 2014 had a place). The average year temperature in Sochi is about +15.5 °C. It means that in Sochi very rare you can see temperatures below 0 This is not a typical Russian winter, isn't it?

Have you ever been to Russia in winter? How did you feel it? 😀

Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on January 7 - which is tomorrow!

The celebrations in Orthodox countries began midnight on 'Christmas Eve', by which we mean January 6.

Yes, in Russia we are still using the Julian calendar - which was created by Julius Caesar in 45BC. This means that there is a 13-day gap between the two calendars - Gregorian and Julian. So Christmas Day we celebrate on January 7.

Christmas is considered a high holiday by the Russian Orthodox Church, one of the 12 Great Feasts, and of only 4 Feasts preceded by a period of fasting.

On Christmas Eve, 6 January, there are several long services, including the Royal Hours and Vespers combined with the Divine Liturgy.

The family will then return home for the traditional Christmas Eve "Holy Supper", which consists of 12 dishes, one to honour each of the Twelve Apostles. Devout families will then return to church for the All Night Vigil.
Then again, on Christmas Morning, for the Divine Liturgy of the Nativity.

Since 1992 Christmas has become a national holiday in Russia, as part of the ten-day holiday at the start of the new year.
