Sparrow Hills are a popular place for people to relax and take in panoramic views of Moscow. A short hike from the Varobyovy Gory metro station, the highest point of the hills is at a height of 85 metres above the city, so you also get a little bit of a workout as you make the uphill climb. At the top of the hill is the Moscow State University, an important centre of education of the city and the nation and quite a breathtaking building in itself

It's time to see true Russia.

Head back in time and visit a Soviet Dacha, or cabin, located on the outskirts of Moscow. When visiting the dacha, you will enjoy a guided tour through the house which is full of Soviet-era relics and artifacts. You will also learn all about the culture and lifestyle of the Soviet Union while sipping Russian tea, learning to make borscht and dumplings, and trying the produce grown in the garden.

The new school year in Russia, begins on the Day of knowledge - September 1. This, undoubtedly, is one of the brightest events in the life of every person, and sometimes, memories of it, cause in the soul the most contradictory feelings. Traditionally on this day, the high school – graduate puts him on his shoulder the first grader, and they make a circle around the school yard, filling it with a loud ringing of the bell, making the holiday has another name – the day of the First call.

If you're visiting St. Petersburg from May to October, there are a number of ways to explore the city by boat, from taking the hydrofoil to the suburban palace and park at Peterhof to enjoying dinner and live jazz on an evening cruise along the Neva. When the weather's good, visitors should really take any opportunity to get out on the water, but even the shortest visit to St. Petersburg in summer should include one boat trip along the city's central rivers and canals.

There is a wide range of different offers available at the various quays on or near Nevsky Prospekt, with larger boats offering guided tours (some in English) and on-board refreshments, and smaller boats that you can rent by the hour, choose your own route, and bring your own food and drink. All routes through the centre take in some portion of the Fontanka and Moyka Rivers and the Griboedov and Kryukov Canals. Some also head out onto the River Neva, while around midnight most of the boats in the city offer the chance to watch the opening of the Neva's bascule bridges from the water. Whatever route you end up taking, a boat trip is a fantastic way to see St. Petersburg from a different angle, and perhaps the best possible means of getting an impression of the sheer scope of the city's architectural beauty and romance.

Gzhel is a Russian style of blue and white ceramics which takes its name from the village of Gzhel where it has been produced since 1802. The pottery was painted solid white with distinctive blue designs. Pottery was also produced using a tin based white glaze and coloured glaze designs in blue, green, yellow, and brown, rather than just blue on a white background, in a style that is referred to as Maiolica. It is generally fired at lower temperatures than either stoneware or porcelain, and can remain semi-permeable to water until glazed.

It's time for

Stakenshnider is an exquisite and luxurious restaurant in the style of the early 20th century located in the center of St. Petersburg. The restaurant’s chef, Sergey Semenov, is a true expert of the very Russian cuisine. Stewed farm products and homemade pickles are the basis of the Russian section of the menu.

Peter and Paul Fort was built in 1703, the very same year that marks the city’s foundation by Peter, The Great. The fort was built to protect “Russia’s window to the West” from Swedish invaders. At the time, the original structure was just made of wood, but later it was rebuilt into a sturdy brick and stone fortress and one of the city’s most iconic constructions. You can take just a couple of hours to visit the fort or even a full day. That’s because it is home to a number of smaller museums, galleries, as well as Peter and Paul’s Cathedral. The church’s golden needle can be seen from miles away and it’s also possible to visit the upper part of the tower

Did you ever read Russian literaruche?

There are so many worldwide famous Russian writers. Alexander Block is one of them. Read about him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Blok

So, now we'll tell you about restaurant that was named in honor of this great writer.

Block is a restaurant on the roof of the Leningrad Center with a panoramic view and an exclusive selection of meat dishes and steaks. The farm with which the restaurant cooperates directly supplies specially selected cuts to its kitchen. The spacious restaurant is located on the third floor of the Leningrad cinema reconstructed building, and from its windows there is a beautiful view of the Tauride Garden. The interior has a bright combination of northern modernism, cubism and futurism.

Peterhof Palace

Also called “the Russian Versailles”, Peterhof was the first imperial palace to be built outside St Petersburg. The palace complex overlooks the Gulf of Finland and has several different sections, including the enormous Alexandra Park.
he Grand Palace used to be the main summer residence of Russian Tsars. The interiors are grand, as the name suggests, in classic architecture and richly decorated.
But the main draw is the palace’s exterior, with many gilded domes and dozens of fountains, making Peterhof one of the most photogenic places in Saint Petersburg.

What might be better than delicious food on weekend?

Shelyapin is a respectable restaurant near the Smolny. (The twin brother in the resort area is also recommended) The interior focuses on the Russian classical style — restrained and aristocratic, intelligent in a modern way. In the menu there is beef stroganoff and steamed sterlet, soup from sauerkraut and meat-jelly with mustard, a variety of meatballs, pies and pickles.

The Hermitage occupies six different buildings, out of which the Winter Palace is the most famous one. My recommendation is checking on the (free) maps available at the entrance which sections interest you most and go on a mission.
The museum is located in one of the city’s most photogenic areas, by the river Neva and near the Admiralty building, a few minutes’ walk from St Isaac’s Cathedral – also on this post.
You can buy tickets at the ticket windows and at machines at the museum. Just bear in mind lines are very long between May and early September.

Here we go. Now we will tell you about one of the best places to eat in Saint-Petersburg

The restaurant belonging to the Shnurovs that have recently broke up is located on the first floor of the Hotel So Sofitel (Ex W). Here you will see that Russian cuisine can be delicious and original. One of the things which are really worth tasting here is the creme brûlée with heather and strawberries! In the restaurant they serve breakfasts, gastronomic sets on certain days, and you can also buy original cakes. Please note that breakfasts are served from 7:00 am to 11:00 am, after which the restaurant closes and starts working for the evening service from 2:00 pm.

For several months last year, Canadian photographer David Burdeny toured around the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, snapping photos of the most beautiful and ornate train stations he found.
And he found a lot.

The metro stations were all built in the early- to mid-20th century, mostly as propagandist odes to Russian dictator Joseph Stalin.

Designed by Moscow’s celebrity chef, Konstantin Ivlev, the restaurant menu features local ingredients and traditional recipes. So if you feel like having a traditional Russian meal and want it to be elaborately prepared and impeccably served, come to Esenin Cafe and opt for olivier salad with smoked wild salmon and caviar, cabbage rolls stuffed with rabbit and the obligatory dressed herring. Adress: Moscow, Novaya sq., 8/2

Completed in 1872, the prison in the Trubetskoy Bastion became the main destination for political prisoners in the final decades of Tsarist rule. Among the inmates held in the 69 isolation cells over nearly 50 years were the celebrated zoologist and anarchist Pyotr Kropotkin; Alexander Ulianov, the elder brother of Vladimir Lenin, who was hanged for his role in an attempted assassination of Alexander III; Leon Trotsky, arrested for his role in the St. Petersburg Soviet of Workers of 1905; the writer Maxim Gorky, and numerous other prominent left-wing figures. In 1917, the prison was used first to hold ministers of the Tsarist government and then, after the October Revolution, of Krensky's Provisional Government. Although it was officially closed in March 1918, the last prisoners held in the Trubetskoy Bastion were in fact the participants in the Kronstadt Rebellion of 1921.

In ancient Rus, it was usually the old maids, poor relatives and dependants who took the humblest places at the table—the corner seats. From this developed the idea that if a girl sits at the corner of the table she will not marry for seven years. Most Russians try not to put girls in corner seats and avoid them themselves.

The "F**a" is a hand gesture that can mean "bupkis" and can ward off evil. For example: You meet someone on the street and they compliment your child and how much they've grown. As soon as you walk away you make your hand into the shape of a F**a and put it in your pocket. This keeps the evil eye away from you.
