hovercraft tours with Vodohod include almost thirty picturesque locations that cannot be reached by bus or ship and respond to the desires of those who tend to visit more sites in a short time.

One such site along our route will be the Buddhist Stupa, known as the Stupa of Enlightenment, which is located at the highest point of the Ogoy island in the Maloye More (the Small Sea) Strait. The snow-white, three-story structure with a dome and spire had been erected in 2005 and then became a new symbol of the island. The Stupa of Enlightenment symbolises the goal of the Buddhist path — complete Enlightenment, and it's capable of dissolving negative energy. There is a belief that if you want to spiritually cleanse yourself from any negativity, you need to walk around the stupa 8 times barefoot. The Stupa can also benefit those who visit it on a regular basis. That's why the Ogoy island became a must-see for many believers and tourists all over the world.

Don't forget to add the island into your must-see list and join one of our Baikal tours. Hurry up and book your hovercraft trip at www.vodohod-cruises.com.

An incredibly beautiful city with a rich history, the jewel of the Golden Ring of Russia, located at the confluence of the Kotorosl River and the Volga River. Today, we will travel to Yaroslavl, the historical centre of which is included in the World Heritage List.

You will see why this place is on the list as soon as you take a walk around the city. Yaroslavl's development is an outstanding example of the reform of urban planning that was carried out throughout the country by decree of Catherine the Great in 1763.

The city was built according to a master plan made up of elements of a radial and semi-radial layout. New streets were oriented towards the most important urban architectural monuments of the past. At the same time, buildings in the classicist style appeared in the city.

In addition to the urban layout, which you can appreciate during your city tour, 140 architectural monuments from different eras have been preserved. For example, the most famous are the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery founded in the 12th century and the Church of Elijah the Prophet (1650).

How beautiful Yaroslavl is in summer, when the city is covered in greenery! We are not surprised that so many travellers love this beautiful city so much.

If you’d like to visit Yaroslavl, choose suitable cruise dates on our website www.vodohod-cruises.com.

We invite you to visit the village of Targabatai located in the Republic of Buryatia, one of the largest Old Believers' settlements in Transbaikalia. It will be a real journey down the history lane.

In the 17th century, right after the Reformation, Russian Orthodoxy split into the official and Old Believer branches. Old Believers did not want to accept the new rules, they were persecuted and exiled away from the capital cities. This is why so many adherents of the old faith have survived in Siberia and still live by the laws and traditions of their ancestors. The culture of the Old Believers of Transbaikalia is recognised by UNESCO as part of the World Cultural Heritage.

Archaeologists and architects confirm that modern huts are built according to the ancient canons. Nowadays, almost every family here keeps ancient icons as well as outfits that are more than three hundred years old. Old Believers' lifestyle and holidays are linked to the agricultural calendar and family rituals.

During your Baikal tour with Vodohod, you will visit the Old Believers' Museum and the Old Orthodox Church, get acquainted with the rites, customs, Old Believers' folklore culture, unique polyphonic singing, and Old Russian cuisine. You will participate in a master class on cooking food in the Russian oven, try spinning and visit the house-estate.

Let's start our acquaintance with heritage sites in the capital of Russia. There are many UNESCO heritage sites in Moscow, but we will start with the elegant Novodevichy Monastery.

The Novodevichy Monastery in was founded by the Grand Duke of Vladimir and Moscow Vasily III in 1524. The monastery was created during the XVI-XVII centuries and was one of the links in the chain of monastic ensembles united in the defense system of Moscow.

The monastery has always been closely connected with the political, cultural and religious life of Russia, as well as with the Moscow Kremlin. Representatives of the royal family, noble boyar and noble families were tonsured as nuns and buried here. For example, the first wife of Peter I and his sister Princess Sophia spent their last years here.

Today this place pleases the eye with a festive white and red ensemble. There is a pond nearby, there is a lot of greenery around, and in the dark the monastery walls are beautifully illuminated. The ensemble of the monastery is a masterpiece of Russian architecture (Moscow Baroque style), and its interiors, where valuable collections of paintings and works of decorative and applied art are stored, are distinguished by rich interior decoration.

There are two most beautiful gate temples in the monastery. Above the southern gate stands the Church of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary with the Mariinsky Chambers built at the end of the XVII century. Another dominant feature of the monastery is the amazingly beautiful "lace" bell tower, erected in 1690 and having a height of 72 m. The amazing walls and towers of the monastery, which we can admire today, were built at the end of the XVI century under Boris Godunov, and in the XVII century the towers were decorated with magnificent openwork crowns.

And how many legends this place keeps!.. But we'll talk about this another time. And we invite you to go on a cruise, where you can see this Moscow monastery with your own eyes.

Welcome to , the capital of Chuvashia!

It used to be a quiet, provincial little town in the first half of the 20th century, but nowadays, it has become a garden city, rightly occupying a leading position in the country in terms of environmental quality.

In its 550-year history, the city has grown rapidly, with its modern houses and factories located along the high bank of the Volga, however, the old city plan has remained unchanged. Enjoy a bus city tour around the capital of the Republic of Chuvashia, where the architectural monuments are harmoniously combined with a modern embankment, decorated with a national ornamental grille. Unusual historical buildings, modern monuments, unique museum collections, parks and squares attract tourists to Cheboksary from all over Russia.

Thanks to the work of restorers, Cheboksary's historic churches look very beautiful and modern. The Vvedensky Cathedral, the city's main temple, is an example of a very long construction project, as the design was approved by Ivan the Terrible. In the 19th century, it was reconstructed in such a way that little remains of the ancient 17th century frescoes.

The Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin, located at the mouth of the Cheboksarka River, combines both Baroque and Old Russian style elements and is unique in that its ground floor is underground. Next to the river port, there is the white Church of the Resurrection of Christ built in 1758. An example of a modern church architecture is the Pokrovo-Tatianinsky Cathedral, built in 2001 near the Guzovsky grove. The Сathedral contains relics of revered saints of the Orthodox Church.

Cheboksary has several classic museums of local history and art, as well as successfully competing modern collections of technology and local beer. Here you can also visit the Scientific Museum of the History of the Tractor and learn more about the nature and history of Chuvashia at the Chuvash National Museum.

Awake your inner explorer and get acquainted with a beautiful and hospitable city of Cheboksary!

Heading South, our ship arrives to a little ancient town, . This town with a brightly coloured architecture is the gem of Russia’s Golden Ring!

Its Kremlin and the Church of St. Dmitry are particularly famous – the church’s fascinating history is tied to the life and death of Ivan the Terrible’s son. After Ivan’s death, his youngest son Dmitry was banished to Uglich in 1584. The most famous event in the town’s history took place on May 15, 1591 when the 10-year old boy was found dead with his throat cut in the palace courtyard. Suspicion immediately fell on the tsar’s chief advisor, Boris Godunov. Official investigators concluded however that Dmitry’s death was an accident.

A team of restorers has been working in the town’s historical center since 1952. As a result, many old buildings have been saved from destruction such as Transfiguration Cathedral. According to the plan for Uglich’s development and construction, recently approved by the local authorities, its historical center will be preserved intact.

Join our special city tour with a visit to the territory of the Kremlin! Our experienced guides will tell you more about the peculiarities of this town to help you emerge into the legends and the history of the distant past.
