The museum "Underground Printing House of 1905-1906" is one of the most unusual museums in Moscow.
The museum's exposition is located in the historical center of the capital.
It was in this very building where during the first Russian revolution an illegal underground printing house was located and where revolutionary leaflets were printed. The printing house was never discovered by the tsarist police due to the high professionalism of its conspirators.
The Museum was opened in 1924. It was created as a monument to the political history of the country during the revolution of 1905-1907 as well as the history of underground activities. The organizers of the museum were those who stood at the origins of the secret printing house and worked there thus the exhibition is compiled with extraordinary accuracy.
Nowadays the museum complex "Underground Printing House of 1905-1906" allows you to feel the spirit of that time and imagine the difficult working conditions in which underground figures worked.

The Imperial Porcelain is a unique phenomenon. Its history is closely connected with the history of Russia, its products — artistic porcelain — is represented in the collections of the largest museums in the world. This is one of the oldest factories of St. Petersburg and of Russia in general.

Today it is a whole complex that deals not only with production, but also with exhibitions and educational projects. The factory has a Museum of Imperial Porcelain that since 2001 has been managed by the State Hermitage Museum. The museum itself was founded in 1844 by the decree of Nicholas I.

Those who want to see with their own eyes how the products of the factory are produced can take a tour to the factory and observe the process of making various porcelain objects.

Vladimir Ulyanov (the main pseudonym of Lenin) is one of the most famous politicians of the 20th century. His biography is one of the most interesting and mysterious ones among the biographies of world politicians.

It was he who was the main organizer of the October Revolution of 1917, which radically changed Russia's hystory.

We've selected some interesting facts about this political figure that you probably didn't know:
1️⃣ During the childhood and youth the mother of young Lenin did not know how to wean him from smoking. No persuasion worked. Lenin continued to smoke. But when his mother said that ci******es cost a lot of money and the Ulyanov's family couldn't afford it - this became the argument for the future revolutionary and since then he no longer smoked.
2️⃣.The pseudonym "Lenin" was first mentioned in 1901. The origin of the most well-established pseudonym is still unknown, although there were about 148 pseudonyms in total.
3️⃣ Lenin could have won the Nobel Peace Prize. It was decided to give him the prize in 1918, if there would be peace in Russia by 1918. Still the outbreak of the civil war deprived the leader of the Nobel prize.
4️⃣ Lenin is one of the few political figures who did not leave behind an autobiography. 5. Ulyanov was always afraid of being paralyzed and unable to work independently. Sensing the approach of a stroke, he called Stalin and asked him to give him poison in case of paralysis. Stalin did not comply with this request. 6. There are more than 5,000 streets that bear the name of Lenin in Russia. It is interesting that sometimes a neighboring or intersecting street is called after Lenin's wife-Krupskaya.

Today 98 years ago Moscow regained the status of the capital of Russia

Since the beginning of the 14th century the residence of the Grand Dukes of Moscow was located in Moscow. In 1712 due to the favorable location of the city on the Baltic Sea and its proximity to Europe the capital was moved to the newly built city of St. Petersburg . St. Petersburg (and later Petrograd) was the capital of the country until 1918

After the October Revolution, on March 12, 1918, Moscow regained the status of the capital of Russia.

                                                                                                                       I...

If you wondered how people lived during the Soviet times you may take a tour to Kommunalka appartment that will give you a rare opportunity to learn everything about it.

You will find yourself in a typical soviet apartments (called Kommunalka) with the pre-revolutionary fireplace and furniture, will visit the common kitchen and discover how people's life is arranged.

In the 1920s the process of transforming apartments belonging to one owner into communal apartments began in the large cities of the young Soviet country. The former owners of the apartment moved into one of the rooms and other rooms occupied in need of housing factory workers, military personnel, members of the various Soviet institutions, and so on. In this way, the Soviet authorities tried to solve the housing problem in the cities, primarily in Moscow and Leningrad, where the population constantly increased due to the influx of labor from the provincial regions of Russia. Nowadays, 10% of housing in St. Petersburg are “communal”. Cohabitation of strangers in one apartment gave birth to a whole cultural layer of urban folklore. Many residents of St. Petersburg keep memories of their childhood and youth spent in such communal apartments.

How to spend an evening in St. Petersburg? Classic options are – going to the theater, concert or visiting a museum. Still you can find a lot of unusual ones. One of them is listening to music in the temple, whose hallmark is its burnt walls.

The Annenkirche is a functioning Lutheran church that dates back to 1735. Its parishioners were the jeweler Karl Faberge, the traveler N. Miklukho-Maklay and the artist Karl Bryullov. At the beginning of the XXI century, the interiors of the temple were damaged during a fire and have not yet been restored. However, this does not prevent it from being the center of attraction for many locals and visitors to the city. People come here for worship services, Sunday school classes, for performances and exhibitions, lectures and master classes. There are also excursions on regular basis (sometimes even at night!), during which you can climb the bell tower.

Nowadays concerts and performances are regularly held in the church. The program includes classical music, jazz, flamenco, world rock hits, and movie music.

St. Petersburg is rightfully considered to be the cat's capital. The city has a lot to do with these animals and there are numerous monuments dedicated to these animals in it. The monuments are located in courtyards, parks, and even on the houseeves.

🐈 The first and the most famous monument to the cat is the monument to the cat Elisha and Vasilisa. These charming sculptures on the eave in the very center of St. Petersburg are monuments to the smoky cats, which were brought to our city shortly after the lifting of the blockade, as a solution against hordes of hungry rats. According to the old tradition, coins are thrown on the eaves to the cats to get a good luck.

🐈 A granite monument to the experimental cat is installed in the courtyard of one of the main universities of St. Petersburg as a gratitude from scientists who used cats in their work.

🐈"In memory of the cats of the besieged Leningrad" - this monument is erected to commemorate thousands of cats who saved the inhabitants of the city from starvation, at the cost of their own lives.

🐈 "The cat on the stone" - installed to remind the residents of this area that in Finnish times their island was called "Kissaisaari", which means "cat's island".

🐈 "The learned cat" from the Pushkin's fairy tale, shows the children the path to knowledge. They say that if you rub the cat's glasses and make a wish related to the field of education — it will be fulfilled.

The Kunstkamera is one of the oldest ethnographic museums in the world and the first museum of this kind in Russia.

The museum was named after the German word "Kunstkammer", which means "Cabinet of curiosities". The museum was supposed to house all sorts of rarities created by nature and human. The full name of the museum is the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography. Its history began with a personal emperor's collection of curiosities — stuffed animals, models of ships, instruments and astronomical instruments. There are also unique objects in the Kunstkammer, for example, a huge (with a diameter of more than 3 m) Gottorp globe of the XVII century, made in the German city of Gottorp and presented to Peter. It is a kind of planetarium with a map of the sky.

The royal collections were open for public. "I want people to watch and learn!" used to say Peter the Great. No money was taken for the entrance, moreover, each visitor was offered a treat. Nowadays the Kunstkamera museum is one of the most visited and interesting museums of St. Petersburg

January 27 is a special day for all the residents of St. Petersburg (former Leningrad) - the day that thousand of people were waiting for 77 years ago. The day when the blockade was finally over.
On September 8, 1941, the siege ring closed around the city. 872 days of hunger, fear, and loss. 3 191 304 people were in a trap. The blockade has become a challenge not only for adults, but also for children.
Boys and girls put out fires, kept watch at night on observation towers, those who were younger stood in line for bread. Chopping wood, washing bandages, clearing the streets of snow, delivering mail, harvesting, carying water from the river Neva - the work that children's hands did. During 872 days Leningrad girls and boys lived in equal conditions with adults. Little heroes made a significant contribution to the liberation of Leningrad.
The diary of Tanya Savicheva became a horrific symbol of the besieged city. Records that still do not leave anyone indifferent.

"Grandmother died on January 25...", " Mother on May 13...", "Uncle Alyosha on May 10", " Everyone died. Only Tanya is still alive." The girl died in 1945 during the evacuation.

On the New year eve the streets and main squares of cities are covered with colorful lights and an atmosphere of magic✨. One of the main parts of the festive events are fairs and bazaars🎄. For many centuries, they have been one of the main attributes of the winter holiday bustle and are located mostly in the large spacious squares in the city center, combining under their tents everything that is necessary for the celebration. It is believed that fairs are mainly held in Europe but many cities in Russia can boast of New year's bazaars, which are not inferior to European ones.
Here are the top 5 New Year bazaars of Russia:
🎁 New year's fair in Moscow
🎁 St. Petersburg Christmas fair
🎁 New year's bazaar in Yekaterinburg

There is traditionally a residence of Ded Moroz 🎅 (Russia's Santa Claus) and an ice rink in the bazaar. During the fairs a lot of different performances, sports competitions and work shops are held there. In the tents you can find a traditional souvenir or warm up with a hot chocolate or mulled wine and have a snack.

There are buildings in the Northern Capital of Russia with a unique history and rich in secrets. Among them - the Pharmacy of Doctor Pel 💉. It is located on Vasilievsky island and is one of the oldest pharmaceutical establishments in St. Petersburg, founded in the mid-19th century. However, the history of the building goes back to the Peter the great era. The pharmacy building is more than 300 years old. From 1710 to nowadays, it houses a functioning pharmacy 💊.
Initially, the building was a drugstore, which constantly changed its owners, until it became the property of Pel. The history of the Pel's pharmacy began in 1858, when Wilhelm Pel opened his pharmacy with a medical laboratory. After his death the pharmacy business was inherited by his son Vasily, who passed the family business to his son Alexander. Alexander and his brothers managed to create a whole complex, including laboratories, an organotherapy Institute, pharmaceutical factories, libraries, and warehouses.
