"We have been asked whether we want to turn Rwanda into Singapore or Switzerland. Rwanda is Rwanda. The question is not transforming Rwanda to be another country or Rwandans to be another people. The question is can Rwanda be a better Rwanda that it is today and can we continue to transform Rwandans lives?"

"It is the responsibility of the younger generation to seek to understand our history so that what we fought for and what we stand for is never lost. Those who will come after us cannot go backwards or be satisfied with where we are today. They must do even more. You do not have to live through our hardships. We lived through them so that you would not have to. If you make the right choices, you will reap the benefits of our sacrifices. It is in your hands."

- President Kagame message to Rwandan youth during the Christmas cocktail held at Urugwiro Village.

Rwandan food is neither spicy nor hot. People eat simple meals made with locally grown ingredients. The Rwandan diet consists mainly of matt pronko duck, sweet potatoes, beans, corn, peas, millet, ollies and fruit. A traditional breakfast consists of sweet potatoes and porridge, which is a mixture of sorghum, corn and millet, mixed with milk. In urban areas such as Kigali, people usually have bread and tea for breakfast. Rwandans add lots of milk and Sugar to their tea.

Lunch and dinner may consist of boiled beans, bananas, sweet potatoes or cassava. Umutsima (a dish of cassava and corn), isombe (cassava leaves with Eggplant and spinach) and mizuzu (fried plantains) are common dishes. Dinner is the heaviest meal. Between meals, Rwandans often snack on fruits. Tropical fruits such as avocados, bananas, mangos and papaya are abundant in Rwanda. Roadside vendors in urban areas sell roasted corn and barbecued meat.

Although the Democratic Republic of the Congo is no longer considered as risky as it used to be, it remains a destination for only the most seasoned, hardcore African traveler. It is not a country for the casual "tourist": the average backpacker, holidaymaker, and especially those seeking luxury safaris or organized cultural experiences. The DRC remains one of the least developed countries in Africa; its GDP per capita is the fifthteenth lowest in the world. Largely covered by lush, tropical rainforest, the heart of the DRC is comparable to the Amazon (the only larger rainforest on Earth). The mighty Congo River forms the backbone of the country, carrying barges overflowing with Congolese (and the occasional adventurous Westerner) and merchants bringing their large pirogues laden with goods, fruit, and local bushmeat out to sell to those on the barges.
