One of the benefits of visiting Masai Mara off-season is the ability to feel as if you are truly in the wild.

With fewer crowds (and vehicles), there can be times when it is almost like you have the whole Masai Mara to yourself.

This is what it felt like when we encountered this gorgeous cheetah while visiting off-season. We were the only vehicle in sight.

We watched this Cheetah scan the land for prey and then leave, to perhaps look for another mound to continue the search.

It was magical!

These cats are skilled climbers, and they like to rest in tree branches during the day.

Although you will take lots of photos of the Mountain Gorillas when you visit them, we suggest putting the camera down for most of your 1-hr visit.

Because what you will feel inside and the moments you will witness while being so close to them, will mean way more to you than any image could!

We came upon this pregnant Black Rhino in Akagera National Park while boating on Lake Rwanyakazinga.

A Black Rhino’s pregnancy lasts about 15 or 16 months, and as any pregnant female knows, the last few months can feel uncomfortable.

It was the same with this Rhino….she kept changing positions in an effort to feel comfortable. It was incredibly fascinating to watch!

Black Rhinos (and White Rhinos, classified as ‘Near Threatened’) are critically endangered, and .park , and have created a protective and important sanctuary in Akagera to secure the future of these vulnerable species.

That view!

The scenery along Lake Kivu is absolutely stunning.

We always recommend travellers break up the 6+ hour drive from Nyungwe Rainforest National Park to Volcanoes National Park with a night at a hotel on the shore of the lake.

It’s particularly gorgeous at sunrise and sunset.

That face!

The Masai Giraffe is the largest giraffe and highest terrestrial animal in the world.

A native to East Africa, we came across a lot of them in Masai Mara.

They are incredible to see, but for some reason, they also provide a sense of internal calm when you are close to them.

If you dare!

The Canopy Walk - a suspension bridge (yes, it sways) - high above the ground is quite the experience.

Located in Nyungwe Rainforest National Park, it is 70 metres high and 160 metres long.

Thrilling, yes. Scary, a little. But, isn’t that what adventure is about?

The graceful and beautiful-colored impalas in .park can leap as high as 3 meters covering a distance of 10 meters in one jump, and run as fast as 75 km per hour.

Standing up-close without physical barriers, being transfixed by their greatness, and wondering if one of the young gorillas will scoot past you a breath away, is an experience you will never, ever, forget.

It will be an experience that touches you on a personal level and sometimes that’s difficult to describe.

We love the idea of taking children on an adventure.

Imagine though, if the adventure is in another country where the culture, landscape, wildlife, and pretty much everything is different from home.

Their imagination will have no limits. Their curiosity will be endless, Their laughter will be infectious, and they will absorb everything they see, learn, and experience like sponges.

They may not remember everything when they are older, but we bet the travel bug will be planted. And that’s a good thing!

Buffett Foundation."

For some reason, feels different from other safari parks in Africa.

Maybe it is because it is a storied park where the chapters of its book are now happy ones.

Maybe it is because it is stunningly beautiful.

Or, maybe it is because it feels real here. Not manufactured like so many other places in the world.

It is pure, and every so often you need to connect with wildlife and nature on this level.

With each bite, a burst of yumminess fills your palate leaving you wondering which spice, herb, ingredient or flavour did I just taste?

We recently dined and loved everything about it - the tasting menu (divine), the decor and ambiance, and of course and his talented team of chefs.

The Golden Monkey is an Old World monkey that is only found in the Virunga Mountain Range. They are listed as endangered.

You can see these beautiful, rather comical, and curious monkeys by taking the Golden Monkey Trek, where you’ll spend 1-hour observing them in the forest.

We’re quite sure you’ll be completely enchanted by them.

You know when the fishermen return from fishing all night on Lake Kivu because you can hear them singing. It puts a smile on your face just listening to them.

It’s almost like their way of saying: Honey, I’m home!

This image was taken at 6:30 AM and it was raining, so eating the fish they caught later was extra yummy knowing how hard they worked.
