Murchison Falls is a powerful waterfall located in Uganda, on the Victoria Nile River. It's the centerpiece of Murchison Falls National Park, the oldest and largest conservation area in the country.
The falls are known for their dramatic plunge. The Victoria Nile River squeezes through a narrow gorge only 7 meters wide before cascading down 43 meters with a thunderous roar. The force of the cascading water creates a permanent mist that rises hundreds of feet into the air, sometimes forming rainbows.

Murchison Falls is not just a scenic wonder; it's also a hotspot for wildlife viewing. The park is home to a diverse range of animals, including lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and over 450 species of birds. Visitors can enjoy boat cruises on the Nile, go on game drives, or hike to the top of the falls for a breathtaking view.

Margherita Peak, the crown jewel of the Rwenzori Mountains, is a breathtaking sight to behold. Towering at 5,109 meters, it's the highest point in Uganda and the third-highest peak in Africa, after Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.

Unlike most African peaks of volcanic origin, the Rwenzori, including Margherita Peak, are formed by a massive horst – a block of Earth's crust raised relative to its surroundings. This unique geological history has led to a diverse and stunning landscape, with glaciers, waterfalls, and lush vegetation adorning the slopes.

Reaching Margherita Peak is a challenging yet rewarding trek. The journey typically takes 5-8 days, winding through dense rainforests, bamboo groves, and afro-alpine meadows. Climbers encounter various climatic zones, from humid tropical to freezing arctic, requiring them to be well-prepared and physically fit.

Did you know some facts about slugs?

Slugs are gastropods, meaning they are mollusks with soft bodies and one foot. They are closely related to snails, but unlike snails, slugs do not have a shell.

Slugs are hermaphrodites, meaning that each individual has both male and female reproductive organs. They reproduce by exchanging s***m with another slug. Slugs can lay hundreds of eggs at a time, and the eggs hatch into tiny slugs after a few weeks

Slugs are generally nocturnal, meaning that they are most active at night. They feed on a variety of plants, including leaves, fruits, and vegetables. Slugs can also be scavengers, and they will eat decaying organic matter.

Pottery making is a traditional craft in Rwanda, with a long and rich history. The Batwa people are particularly renowned for their pottery skills. Batwa pots are typically made from a mixture of clay, water and sand, and are decorated with intricate geometric patterns. They are used for a variety of purposes, including cooking, storing food and water, and serving food and drinks.

Pottery making is a skill that is passed down from mother to daughter. The process of making a pot is time-consuming and labor-intensive, and requires a great deal of skill and dexterity.

The potter first collects the clay and sand, and then kneads them together with water to form a dough. The dough is then rolled out into long coils, which are then stacked on top of each other to form the shape of the pot. The potter uses her hands and a simple tool to smooth out the pot and create the desired shape. Once the pot is shaped, it is decorated with patterns and designs. The pot is then dried in the sun for several days, before being fired in a kiln.

Murchison Falls National Park is a protected area in Uganda, covering approximately 3,840 km² of wilderness on both sides of the Nile River, east of Lake Albert and west of Karuma Falls . It is one of Uganda’s oldest and largest protected areas and was once Africa’s most visited park . The park is home to the second-largest elephant population in Uganda.

The park is divided by a stretch of Nile River known as the Victoria Nile, which creates a tapestry of riverine habitat and flows into the park’s eponymous waterfall - Murchison Falls.

The falls are named after famous British geologist Sir Roderick Murchison and mark the river’s entry to the East African Rift. Here, some 300 cubic meters of water per second are forced through a narrow gorge just seven meters wide before plunging 43 meters in a cloud of mist and churning water . These dramatic falls, lined by verdant plant life, can be viewed from above after a short hike or at a more leisurely pace in a boat from below.

Murchison Falls National Park is home to an abundance of wildlife, including lions, spotted hyenas, leopards, warthogs, porcupines, baboons, monkeys, and elephants. The park also boasts over 450 bird species.

If you’re planning an expedition to Murchison Falls National Park, you can explore various attractions such as the world’s most powerful waterfalls, Victoria Nile, abundant bird species, beautiful vegetation, and many others.

situated on a ridge of a collapsed caldera in the waters of Lake Kivu and gives spectacular views of the surrounding environment, Tchegera island has about 10 well-equipped safari-styled Meru tents with warm showers, Wi-Fi connection, powered by a generator and luxury touch in the interior and a well-equipped bathroom with electric hand hair driers. The views at the terrace of the main tent are amazing with a campfire usually lit up as the sun sets and you can enjoy the view of the red glow from the active volcanoes Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira in the clouds with the lights from Goma town at the front on clear nights from here. There is also some birdlife on this Island like the African eagle, gulls, Grey Crowned cranes, little Egret, and cormorants so you can enjoy birding on a boat trip around and also when on the few trails of the Island. You can access the island on a Virunga hired boat, a kayak or a private boat. This could be a great spot for honeymooners who decide to visit Virunga for their honeymoon. Most travelers also use this quiet place to edit and make the most out of the memories they captured while on their gorilla trekking and Nyiragongo hike.
