EXPERIENCE OF ONE HOUR CAVING UNDER 50 METERS FROM THE GROUND!

 

Did you know that caves can grow? Did you know about the history of Musanze caves in Rwanda liberation war and genocide against Tutsi in 1994?

Can’t start without thanking the lovely couple and our best clients on 15th June 2024!

Musanze cave is one of the longest caves in Rwanda with 2km long which was created over hundreds years ago by volcanic eruption. It is located in Musanze district near Volcanoes national park which is approximately 20 minutes to the cave.

With our skilled tour guide who has over 12 years of experience, our caving started at 11h00 where he started by introducing to us all about the cave. All about that day's experience, we have seen the evidence of the growing of caves about very few millimeters for over years. We have learned about the history of Rwanda liberation war and genocide against Tutsi during 1994 where this cave used to be escape shelter of Tutsi during genocide. And when ‘’Inkotanyi’’ came, ‘’Abacengezi” tried to hide in but Inkotanyi tried to close all the outdoors and then ‘’Abacengezi’’ who were causing insecurities faced hunger and started to report out themselves. Beyond that, we took some minutes quietly and light off as the ancestors' priest did during meditation which was a great experience by enjoying natural sounds of water and bats. It took us over 1 hour by caving! Later that we turned back to the Dian Fossey gorilla fund where we have learned all about history of this American zoologist woman and visit one of gorilla family using VR (Virtual reality) and the next we turned for kingdom history of Rwanda by visiting king Palace.

One thing everyone was wondering about at that time was the safety and the curiosity of what is in there. But we were with a ranger girl to assist us in case we may face any insecurity issue by prediction because the cave is really safe.
