New Discovery: Largest Coral in the World Found in Solomon Islands

Visible from space, the mega coral is three times larger than the previous record-breaker, is believed to be about 300 years old, storing a record of ocean conditions from the past centuries.

Not so lonely in the Solomon Islands

Pictured (right) on a trek to Myles Falls on Kolombangara, high profile Canadian travel writer Jessica Lockhart who has been visiting the Solomon Islands to collate stories for internationally-renowned travel guide publisher, Lonely Planet.

Ms Lockhart, pictured with Tourism Solomons marketing officer, Eldona Lokay, visited the destination literally hours after being presented with the prestigious Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) ‘Most Outstanding Consumer Travel journalist 2024’ award in Sydney.

Ms Lockhart’s itinerary in the Solomon Islands included hiking in Kolombangara and snorkelling at Njari Island, a Savo island volcano walk and cultural activities and a Honiara-based program incorporating visits to several WWII sites and monuments.
