Air Seychelles Announces Additional Flights for the Upcoming Festive Season

Air Seychelles is pleased to announce the addition of several new flights as part of its service expansion for the busy upcoming festive season. These enhancements provide passengers with even more options when choosing their holiday destinations.

New Wednesday flight to Mauritius – Starting in December and continuing into early January, the national airline will add a new Wednesday flight to the popular shopping hotspot, Mauritius, resulting in an average of four flights per week.

Increased Service to Johannesburg – To meet the high demand during peak travel times, a fourth weekly flight will be introduced to the capital city of Johannesburg in South Africa, including a new Saturday evening departure with a return journey available early Sunday morning.

Expanded Schedule for Mumbai – From 18 December 2024 to 01 January 2025, three additional flights on Wednesdays will be added, facilitating a twice-weekly service to Mumbai.

Optimized Colombo Connections – The Saturday flight to Colombo will now depart Seychelles at 1730 hrs, providing a significantly faster connection to multiple destinations offered by our codeshare partner, Sri Lankan Airlines. This is particularly beneficial for fans of the exciting city of Bangkok in Thailand as it allows for a quick one hour connection without the need for a visa.

Seasonal Service to Reunion Island – Announced earlier during the year, Air Seychelles will be launching a seasonal service to the island of La Reunion on 30 December 2024 to 18 January 2025.

Charles Johnson, Chief Commercial Officer of Air Seychelles, stated, “We’re excited to announce additional flights for the upcoming festive season, allowing passengers even more options for their favorite destination. Additionally, our new nonstop flights to La Reunion provide significant time savings over previous indirect flight options. As this will be a very busy holiday period, we recommend everyone to book their flights as soon as possible.”

Travelers can take advantage of these new schedules by booking through the airline’s website, www.airseychelles.com, or by contacting their preferred travel agent.

A morning well spent today with a group of excited students from The Children's House Montessori School.

Air Seychelles welcomed Miss Hazel's Emerald Group consisting of 15 eager little aviation enthusiasts onboard V***e where they not only got to see the aircraft up close, but experienced the product first hand.

We hope that this experience of learning about the aviation industry outside of the classroom will help spark a lifelong interest in the field and maybe welcome some of them as staff members at the national airline in a few years.

Our CEO, Sandy Benoiton joined us this afternoon for a clean-up activity in alignment with this year's Clean Up the World Campaign.

Our team chose the beach along Ile Soleil as the focal point for their efforts, considering its close proximity to the island's airport and its location directly within the flight paths of all airlines serving the country.

These clean-ups serve as a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the beautiful spaces that surround us and highlights our engagement to community engagement and sustainable practices. Together, we can make an impact!

It’s been a hot minute, but we are back with our Long Service Profiles in honour of our team members celebrating big milestones this year.

This week, we are delighted to introduce our Crew Qualification Manager, Elna Bristol who has been with Air Seychelles for 25 years.

Q: Have you always fancied a career in the aviation industry?

A: Not at all! I am actually a qualified cook. Before joining Air Seychelles, I worked for Mrs Alibhaye in her tuck shop at the International School for three years - an experience I still think back on fondly. I was quite young then and got drawn to a vacancy in the paper to join the national airline as a check in agent and the rest is history! Now that I have spent 25 years in the aviation industry, I cannot imagine doing anything else. It really grows on you and becomes a part of you. It is fast paced for sure, and some days can be very hectic but I manage to maintain a good work-life balance, with the help of a supportive family.

Q: How has working for Air Seychelles shaped you?

A: Firstly, my time with the airline has truly brought me out of my shell. Growing up, I was always a reserved and shy person who mostly kept to myself. I vividly remember the anxiety I felt when I was asked to make a public announcement when I just joined as a check in agent. Fast forward to today, and I can do it without a second thought. Spending twenty-five years in this environment is significant, and throughout my journey, especially by working in various departments, I’ve discovered numerous skills and attributes that I didn’t know I possessed. I now feel confident in myself and my duties, which is an empowering feeling. I have also had the privilege of meeting and working with incredible people who have shaped who I am today, such as Ireney Ernest and our now CEO, Sandy Benoiton, who believed in me and pushed me to my full potential. One of the many good things about Air Seychelles is its commitment to investing in its people. We receive training and up-skilling opportunities that are immensely valuable and crucial for our growth.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself?
A: I consider myself an easy going, cool and positive person and this serves me well in my job and in life in general. I firmly believe that things happen as they are meant to and the best way to overcome challenges is to face them and move on. I was born and raised in Takamaka, where I still reside, and I truly appreciate the quiet it offers at the end of a long, hectic work day. I strive to be a good team member - I am reliable, hardworking and work well with all kinds of people. This mindset helps foster a collaborative and enjoyable work environment.

Q: Did you ever think you would last 25 years?
A: Honestly, no. I gave it a shot when I started and was open to seeing how it would go. It obviously went well as I found myself staying on year after year, and here I am, a quarter of a century later. It has been a fulfilling journey so far and I am incredibly proud of all I have achieved during my tenure. I am also super proud of our little airline for everything it has gone through and overcome; it will always hold a special place in my heart.. I hope to enjoy many more years at Air Seychelles.

Air Seychelles Enhances Connectivity with Inaugural Direct Flights to Réunion

Air Seychelles, in collaboration with Tourism Seychelles, is excited to announce the launch of seasonal flights between Seychelles and Réunion, scheduled to commence on December 30, 2024. This initiative aims to bolster connectivity and promote tourism exchange between the two picturesque islands.

Air Seychelles will operate one weekly direct flight to Réunion on the following dates: December 30, 2024, January 6, 2025, January 13, 2025, and January 18, 2025 which will include a technical stop in Mauritius. The flight schedule has been meticulously designed to cater to travellers seeking to explore the natural beauty and cultural richness of Seychelles.

On December 30, 2024, the flight will depart from Roland Garros Airport at 14:50 and arrive at Seychelles International Airport at 17:25.

On January 6, 2025, January 13, 2025, and January 18, 2025, the flight will depart from Seychelles International Airport at 08:00 and arrive at Roland Garros Airport in Réunion at 10:35. The return flight on these dates will depart from Réunion at 11:35 and arrive in Seychelles at 14:10.

“Building on the positive response received upon announcing the signing of the SPA agreement with Air Austral last month and the succeeding meetings with the travel trade in Reunion, we are delighted to launch this seasonal service to coincide with the holidays and offer a hassle free journey to the Seychelles in time for the new year.” stated Air Seychelles CEO, Mr Sandy Benoiton.

Bernadette Willemin, Director General for Destination Marketing at Tourism Seychelles, expressed excitement about the new flights, stating, "The introduction of Air Seychelles flights to Réunion marks a significant milestone that is set to boost visitor arrivals to Seychelles. This strategic initiative promises Réunionais tourists enhanced accessibility to our pristine beaches, vibrant cultural experiences, and unparalleled attractions, reinforcing Seychelles' position as a premier tourism destination in the Indian Ocean region."

This new route underscores the commitment of Tourism Seychelles and Air Seychelles to facilitate seamless travel experiences and foster greater cultural exchange between Seychelles and Réunion.

Air Seychelles offers insight into the aviation industry for Careers Week

Air Seychelles played a significant role in this year’s Careers Week, an annual initiative organised by the Ministry of Education to provide students and jobseekers with insights into various careers, training and employment opportunities. This year’s event, themed “Making the right career choice for a successful future”, was launched on Monday 08 July 2024.

As the national airline, Air Seychelles welcomed school children to explore career opportunities in the aviation industry, conducted on-site visits on Mahe and Praslin, and participated in school presentations.

On Tuesday 09th July, staff members Stephanie Nicholas and Sheila Banane delivered a presentation at Praslin Secondary School about careers in Air Seychelles, focusing on roles such as Guest Services Agents and Ramp functions. Students then visited Praslin Airport, where they interacted with flight crew and ground staff.

On Wednesday 10th July, Christiana Labrosse, Guest Contact Centre Manager, presented to P5 students at the La Rosiere Primary School, emphasizing front office roles.

The week concluded with a visit from ten students from the School for the Exceptional Child to the Head Office on Mahe. They toured the technical operations hangar, observed equipment demonstrations by engineering and IT staff, and learned about different company roles. The visit ended with a performance by the Air Seychelles Choir, which was particularly enjoyed by the attendees.

Speaking of the visit, Miss Vernette Celestine from the School for the Exceptional Child expressed, “It is very heartwarming to have been invited, especially since we rarely get included in such activities regarding careers and employment. It has been an eye opening experience for all of us who attended. The choir performing for us at the end was a very touching gesture! Thank you Air Seychelles.”

Sandy Benoiton, CEO of Air Seychelles, highlighted the airline’s commitment “At Air Seychelles, where our workforce consists mainly of Seychellois, we are enthusiastic to participate in any initiative that will encourage our future candidates to join our line of work. It has been a pleasure to host these visits and we take the opportunity to thank the schools who have both invited us to their grounds for talks as well as come to us for a tour.”

Air Seychelles and Air Austral to collaborate on reconnecting Seychelles and Reunion

Air Seychelles and Air Austral have formed a new partnership in the form of an SPA agreement, allowing their respective customers to travel between Seychelles and Reunion on one ticket, effective immediately.

This comes after the decision by Air Austral to cancel their nonstop route between Seychelles and Reunion. Discussions were initiated with Air Seychelles in order to offer continuity of service between the two islands.

Air Seychelles and Air Austral are today able to announce the establishment of an interline agreement, called ‘SPA’ (Special Prorate Agreement), allowing travel between Seychelles and Reunion via Mauritius and benefiting passengers with more flexible and cost-effective travel options. Customers will benefit from a single ticket for their entire journey, with their baggage also checked in to their final destination making it a seamless, worry-free journey.

Example of a one-way trip from Seychelles to Reunion via Mauritius

- Departure from Seychelles at 0930 hrs arriving into Mauritius at 1205 hrs
- Departure from Mauritius at 1445 hrs arriving into Reunion at 1530 hrs Example of a one-way trip from Reunion to Seychelles via Mauritius

- Departure from Reunion at 1315 hrs arriving into Mauritius at 1400 hrs
- Departure from Mauritius at 1705 hrs arriving into Seychelles at 1940 hrs.

“Air Austral is pleased with this partnership with Air Seychelles. It was important for us to be able to offer an alternative travel to the Seychelles to our passengers. It’s a destination we know is particularly appreciated by the Reunion islanders and which we hope to be able to resume, as soon as the financial and operational situation will allow it, in agreement with our authorities.” Said Joseph Brema, Chairman of the Management Board of Air Austral.

“It is a pleasure for Air Seychelles to be able to intervene and offer an alternative bridge between Seychelles and Reunion at a time when it was most needed. We look forward to a long and fruitful cooperation,’ shares Sandy Benoiton, Chief Executive of Air Seychelles.

Air Seychelles currently operates between Seychelles and Mauritius three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays offering passengers a range of dates to plan out their holidays and connections.
