At Our Little Farm we keep our horses in herds. This has different advantages for the wellbeing of the horses. Horses that used to live in a stable and later on joined a herd, you see a lot of mental changes.

Keeping the horses in groups means they can always socialise with each other. Think of playing, scratching and resting. Here, each has a preference for another horse to socialise with.

Besides that, we keep our horses outside day and night. They have unlimited access to hay and water and each paddock has a shelter place for bad weather .

This way, we try to keep our horses in an as natural way as possible to keep them healthy and happy.

Bitless riding, a form of riding which is based on mutual trust and connection between your horse and you. A feeling we also hope to give you when joining one of our trailrides. 😍

Most of our horses are ridden without a bit. A comfortable way for the horse to have a freedom of movement. It does require being consequent, but it also gives the opportunity to guide the horse with small and light aids. 🐴

It is beautiful if we can also give this amazing feeling to our guests. That they feel the connection with the horse, notice the mutual trust, find their own balance to help guide the horse on the trail path, the experience the amazing feeling of your horse and you becoming a real team🙌🏼

Donate now to our oldies and help them in getting the best retirement possible!

Our oldies are very special to us, but also many other people who came here because they have given them wonderful experiences and memories they will never forget. Both young and old, beginners and experienced people have met the oldies and were given the feeling of the special partnership between human and horse. These oldies have taken the guests on beautiful trail rides through Swedish natures, swimming, chuckwagon tours and many more unforgettable adventures. 🌲

Therefore we want to give our oldies the best retirement possible with everything they need to be in good health and feel happy. You can help us and the oldies with that by donating. Recap of the last few weeks🤠☀️🌲🐴

In the last few weeks we noticed that we slowly got closer to springtime. Lots of melting snow, higher temperatures, and more green🌲. Also the animals feel it coming. They love to play in the grass and be crazy🤪💨.

We had amazing activities during the spring break such as trailrides, pancake nights, hottub evenings, and sleigh rides🤠🐴. Now, the sleigh is inside again and we are starting to prepare for springtime🤩.

In between the work, breaks were taken in the sun😎☀️. Besides that, the first seeds are planted such as watermelon and tomatoes🍅🥦, we started extra cleaning everywhere, firewood is still cutted🪵, and there was lots of horse brushing.

New life!🐮

Two of our cows gave birth to beautiful calfs 1.5 weeks ago. Both birthed during the day and everything went quick and well. So, we have two very proud cow moms🫶🏼🐮.

The black calf, a little bull, is called Freek and the beautiful grey/white girl is called Suzan. They are doing amazing and love rund around together, but also to relax in the sun☀️😎.

Also Menno is still doing great. He is always in for cuddles and scratches. Besides that, he is very sweet with the new calfs🥰. They sleep together in the stable, but also love to play around outside💨🐮.

Sjaco will turn 1 year this year! Even tough he is still very young, he does get to know some basics🐴.

When Sjaco was only a few weeks old he already walked next to Holly in front of the wagon and learned to pick up his feet. Besides that, walking with him on the halter also isn't new for him💪🏼🦄.

Now, Sjaco is getting a big boy and we start to learn him a few more things. Such as putting on a girth and putting in a bit, which he is doing very well! We also started to walk with him on the long reins and learn him some simple voice cues which are the beginnings of walking in front of the wagon.

We are looking forward to what the future will bring us with this big, brave men🤩🐴

It is important for us to keep our horses in an as natural environment as possible where they can eat, drink, socialize and rest any time🐴🙌🏼.

During wintertime we keep our horses in smaller herds in big paddocks. Each paddock has one or two shelter places where the horses can lay down, or shelter when there is a lot of wind or snow🌨️.

Besides that, the horses have unlimited access to hay and mineral stones to help them through the winter. When the weather allows it, we put them during the day on the field with hay bales🌾.

By keeping our horses this way, we provide them in their basic needs and keep them healthy and happy!🫶🏼🦄

A little recap from the last few weeks🤠🌲🇸🇪.

Even tough the weather was not perfect, we had some amazing trailrides with beautiful views🌲, nice sleigh rides with good company, cozy hottub evenings and delicious pancake nights🥰. Amazing experiences and wonderful new adventures!

Besides that, the calf Menno was born🐮 and we spotted many mooses! Not only during the wildlife safari, but also close to the horsefield🤩. Snowboard skills were practiced behind Holly🏂, many breads were baked, and trees were cutted to make firewood🔥🪵.

Every day is different and comes with new adventures! Do we also see you soon to create unforgettable memories with us?🤠🫶🏼🔥🐴🌲🇸🇪

More then a week ago, Menno was born💙. He had a tough start because his mother left him when he was born. We took him in our house and after lots of warmth, care and love he started to feel better again!

Menno is moved to the stable now to grow up as a strong, big bull. The mother still doesn't accept him but she does allow him to drink. Besides that he loves to cuddle and play🫶🏼.

Besides our own farm animals, Swedish nature also has a great wildlife! Think of deers, badgers, squirrels, but also foxes and mooses!🦊🦌🦨🫎 With our wildlife camera's we can check which animals are active around the farm. This creates great shots📸.

Even though these animals are used to the challenges of the Swedish winter, we help them a little bit on the way. This is done by putting hay and mineral stones in the forest which helps these great animals in surviving the cold Swedish winters❄️.

A selfmade campfire is the perfect way to warm-up when being outside, or to prepare and grill your food. 🥪🌭 Besides that, sitting together around the campfire creates a feeling of cosiness and deeper conversations are started.

Therefore, during our activities we often make our own fire. For example during the sleigh tour to grill the lunch. Or during the pancakenight to prepare the pancakes. An amazing way to make your Swedish experience complete! 🔥

We produce our own hay for our horses to be sure to have high quality of hay🌾. First, the meadow for the hay is carefully choosen based on the quality of it. Second, the grass is mowed and needs to dry 3 to 5 days. It is shuffled once or twice a day untill the rows are made🚜. When the rows are made, the hay is pressed into either small or big bales.

A meadow can be cutted once, and sometimes even twice a year. Usually the first cut is around may/june, and the second cut is in september. Hay can be held 2 years and we produce around 1500 small bales and 150 big bales per year. We need every year around 400 big bales. The main grass in our hay is Timotei, but there are also other sorts of grass in the hay such as Angssvingel Tored, Rodsvingel Rubin, and Angsgröe Sobra🌾.

So that is a quick inside in the production of our hay!🌾🤠🚜

IT’S ALL ABOUT HORSES – WINTER EDITIE

Our Little Farm en Hooves & Boots Horsemanship hebben al een aantal keer in het voorjaar It’s all about horses georganiseerd, een avontuurlijke horsemanship week in Zweden. Na enthousiaste reacties van de deelnemers organiseren we nu een speciale editie It’s all bout horses: de winter editie! Tijdens deze week krijg je niet alleen theorie en praktijk les over horsemanship, gedrag van paarden en nog veel meer, maar maken we ook mooie buitenritten in de sneeuw, maken we een husky sleetocht, gaan we op wildlife safari en nog veel meer. We warmen ons op bij het vuur met warme chocolademelk, en met een beetje geluk trakteert de natuur ons zelfs nog op het noorderlicht.

Er is plek voor 4 deelnemers om mee te doen met paard en voor fencesitters. Fencesitters kunnen alle activiteiten mee doen en bij de praktijklessen kijken ze mee. Het is ook mogelijk om een zelf gekozen gedeelte van de activiteiten mee doen. Dat maakt deze week ook geschikt voor gezinnen, vriendengroepen die hun partner mee willen nemen enz. IT’S ALL ABOUT HORSES – WINTER EDITION

Our Little Farm and Hooves & Boots Horsemanship have organized It’s all about horses, an adventurous horsemanship week in Sweden, several times now in spring. After receiving enthusiastic reactions from participants, we’re now organizing a special edition of It’s all about horses: the winter edition! The week will not only be filled with horsemanship, horse behavior, theory and hands on lessons and much more, but we’ll also be making beautiful trail rides in the snow, go husky sledding, go on a wildlife safari and much more. We’ll warm ourselves by the fire with hot chocolate and with a little bit of luck, nature might treat us to Northern lights.

There is availability for 4 participants to participate with a horse and for fence sitters. Fence sitters can join in on all activities and can watch the hands on lessons. It’s also possible to only join in on the activities of your choice. When your horse and you understand each other more, a deeper connection will arise.
There is no "one right way" to train horses, but it is important to always stay open-minded. Keep feeling and live in the moment when you interact with them, or other animals. Then, you can learn from the animals and create a better and deeper relationship with them🙌🐴🌲❤️.
