Which night train person are you? 🌙🚂
~ Because who really needs to sleep at the night train anyways?

1. The Christmas snacker

2. The I-watch-Christmas-movies-all-night-long (preferably with Jude law in them)

3. The sophisticated chess player - can’t waste any time not practicing

4. The book maniac (preferably two books in a night instead of sleeping)

Rail Voyage featured in

This is a dream come true for me to be honest. I started this account last autumn because I had just quit my corporate job and felt a bit lost in life. Decided to travel by train from Sweden to Florence, Italy to study Italian & live there for a while and wanted to document my travels & show people how amazing train travel is and how much you experience by travelling more slowly.

And what a journey it’s been. Now we’re here, a year later. And I’m featured in Sweden’s largest travel magazine 🤍

For all my Swedish speaking followers - now you’ll find an article about my journey, the background to why I founded Rail Voyage & 8 of my top destinations by train in Europe 🤍✨

Thank you for being here! I love talking to all of you every day!

To many more journeys together 🤍

Looking for a cosy Christmas escape in Sweden this December? 🎄 | SJ Götalandståg AD

Let the train take you to these magical West Coast destinations! All very close to each other and you can easily combine a few of them on the same day 🚂✨

✨ 1. Liseberg Christmas Market, Gothenburg: Experience snowy streets, sparkling lights, and festive carousels in Sweden’s most magical Christmas market

🌊 2. Varberg: This charming seaside town is now glowing with holiday cheer, perfect for a cosy winter day trip. Don’t forget to go to the magical fortress & why not spend the night there?

🎄 3. Alingsås: Known as the “City of Lights,” it’s beautifully decorated for the season, with cosy Christmas markets and festive treats. Also known for their old cosy cafes, don’t miss grabbing a bun - or two

🌟 4. Trollhättan: Watch the waterfalls shimmer under twinkling lights and enjoy the town’s enchanting Christmas vibe. Also has beautiful nature areas located close to the city.

🕯️ 5. Haga, Gothenburg: Wander cobblestone streets lined with rustic cafés, boutique shops, and delightful holiday stalls. One of the oldest areas in Gothenburg with lots of cosy cafes.

🏭 6. Jonsered’s Old Factory Area: Step into history as this industrial gem transforms into a festive wonderland with a charming Christmas market. Bakeries, a brewery with Christmas flavours and a charming hotel are just some of the things you can expect.

TRAIN INFO:

🚂 all these places can be reached by taking the train by SJ Götalandståg / Västtrafik

💸 Cost for a train journey is between 36-134 SEK

🎫 Find tickets in vasttrafik app, sj app or sj.se

Relax, travel sustainably, and let the magic of the season begin! I’m very excited! 🎅🎄

5 of my top tips for train travel with kids 🚂
.but of course there are many more

Will be honest - I don’t have kids but this is one of my most asked questions and these are some of the things I would do 🤭 feel free to add tips in the comments if you have kids so people can see them 🤍

MORE INFO:

1. Night trains 🌙

~ try night trains but make sure to book your own couchette if you are 3-6 people
~ or a sleeper cabin (2 people) if you travel with kids below 5 as these usually can share the same bed as the parent

Bonus tip: download movies and charge computers/iPads before you get on the train 🎥🍿

2. Disney featured towns 🏰

~ make stops in movies that have featured in Disney movies or that kids movies are based on
~ some examples: Colmar (beauty and the beast), Hallstatt (Frozen), Innsbruck (Frozen), London (Harry Potter), Paris (Ratatouille) etc

3. Interrail pass 🎫

~ if you buy an interrail pass (an all-you-can-ride-ticket for trains in most European countries) you can bring up to 2 kids for free usually, talk about good price!

4. Bring snacks and water 💦

~ always bring snacks and 2-3 water bottles. You cant drink the water on the train and if the train is late you want some snacks

5. Enough time when changing trains

~ always add more time than you think between stops and changes. I always have 1-3 hours between changes
~ usually I leave the luggage at the station in lockers and take time to explore the city, that way you experience a lot!

Pro tip: check that the train station is not too far from the city centre

I still remember going by train when I was a kid and it’s one of those great memories I have 🥹🤍 so bring your kid to the rails, I’m sure they will love it 🚂

Dreaming about going to bed in one country and waking up in another? 💭🌙

Here’s how to book seats for the night trains if you have an interrail pass + a little bonus of where to book regular tickets for night trains 👇🏻

🤍 But first - SAVE to not lose this information, easily happens on instagram. A tip is to create a folder saying “how to train travel”

Okey let’s dig in!

INTERRAIL PASS SEAT RESERVATION
(For nightjet trains )

🌞 STEP 1 - go to nightjet.com & fill out your connection (check nightjet map to see where you can travel with their trains)

🌞 STEP 2 - click on the “select travellers” and choose discount cards

🌞 STEP 3 - search for “Interrail” and click on it

🌞 STEP 4 - click on “find connection” and you will now see the seat reservation prices

You don’t need to fill out anything else and will get the ticket on email once you’ve paid. But make sure your pass is valid on the day you’re travelling

REGULAR TICKETS FOR NIGHT TRAINS 🌙

• Central Europe: nightjet.com - the same way as above but skip the discount part. Trains for most countries in Central Europe and to Italy/croatia

• Central/North of Europe: - europeansleeper.eu - trains between Netherlands/belgium and Germany and Czech. And soon more! They just announced a line to Venice from Netherlands 🥹

• UK: - sleeper.Scot - trains in uk between London and Scotland

• Sweden, Norway & Germany: sj.se - trains in Sweden + Stockholm - Hamburg + north of Norway.

• Norway: + - book at entur.no

• Italy: .official - lefrecce.it

Was this helpful or do you want me to explain more? 🤍
