The mountains in combination with the old forests are maybe something of the best! The views in combination with possibilities to find protection from the worst weather. It’s beautiful, safe and comfortable.

We had some great northern lights during the last week. The season is still ongoing until the nights are too bright.
All this pictures are made with my IPhone 13 and it’s automatic settings with the flash turned off. I have some more pictures made with my original cameras but I show them later…

Now I have been using my Skinbased skies for several years. I’m still very happy with the concept and the quality of this skies. The WAP 129 have not the sharp metal edges and that makes them perfect for dog people!

Jesse is one of the dogs that comes inside a lot during our tours. He has less good hair and works hard. If he comes inside in the night he doesn’t lose weight as fast as he does if he sleeps outside. He also a very nice company inside.

Amazing Northern Lights in this evening!

Eight dog assess is my office view most of the time this period of the year. Right now I’m on my way from Jokkmokk to Saltoluokta Mountain Lodge with a stop at Årrenjarka Mountain Lodge where we are right now.

This winter, like most of the winters, people ask me if it’s possible. This year people think it’s not enough with snow, other years it’s to much snow, bad ice, windy and I don’t know. Most of these warnings comes from people who don’t travel around in nature, except during eastern.

The answer this year is that the ice on lakes, so far, are great, it’s enough with snow and the conditions is all over really good! Of course it’s dangerous to be out here if you are stupid. This year it’s less snow so you can’t go maximum speed with your snowmobile because then you will hit a stone sooner or later, but that’s also happening a ’normal’ winter.

So, here in Årrenjarka the snow conditions and trail conditions are really great. Now we continue to the north and then we will see if something change. One day after another. That’s how life works out here.

Some pictures from the last 4 day trip west of Jokkmokk. We had some very beautiful nights when the moon was lighting up the nature and the northern lights really great. The dogs was doing fine and the guests was dog lovers and that’s a winning concept for a good tour.

Today I have been on a 150km snowmobile tour. Checking some cabins, transport firewood, checking trails and preparing some trails.

Snowmobile is a really good tool when you need it. Now days they are also using the fuel in a very efficient way. I think this big machine takes 1,5 litres/10km. It’s less than half of what I need for the machine from 1980.

I like to go on a snowmobile trip like this now and then. It’s fun variation. To be honest I really prefer a good dog team!

Dallas enjoy all the fresh snow. He’s a really hard working guy who always is nice and friendly. He is little bit skeptic to new people but after some hours or days you could win his trust. Then you got a friend.

Dallas is one of our D-litter. We still got Dolly and Dafina at our kennel. His brother Dafu was my top leader for many years but he got very bad (probably artros) in his wrist. It was nothing to do to help him sadly.

Dallas is anyway like a big teddy bear in the team. He handle all positions in the team and we both enjoy the life out on the trails!

Behind 14 dogs, heavy trails and warm temperatures together with four guest. We (or at least I) had a great time out with campfire, coffee and nice chats.

Have I told you that I’m kind of happy that we got the snow? Tomorrow we plan to upload a video at our YT Channel. It’s from a two day long tour with heavy winds and not so much snow…

This night we are in our small camp. We can see that the clouds are little bit green so probably it’s an amazing northern light show going on up there…

It’s cloudy and it’s snowing and I’m so happy for the extra snow that we got! Finally some winter feeling…

Camping season is ON. It’s overnight tours, four day tours and soon we also start with the longer once. During this time of the year we mostly travel around in the forest area and then we are using our heavy hot tent. They are already in place when we arrive with our group. We just have to start the fire in the stove and then we got a warm and cosy home for the night.

This, glamping camp, is an Arctic Lavvo Gamme Lang. If you want to know more about this you will find a video at YouTube where we explan and show this tent in detail. It’s one of few tents that are hand made in Scandinavia. It’s made in northern Norway so when you buy this, you support a local business in the countryside above the Arctic circle.

We love this tent and it’s much more comfortable than a small cabin! We use this tent during some weeks in the beginning of the winter. Then, when we start travelling towards the mountains, we switch to lighter tents.

This picture is not from this winter. Today we got warm winds, melting snow and icy trails. This picture was just taken from my dreams and actually from my archive.

Today we are wondering where is the snow. In a couple of weeks we will probably be dreaming about little bit less snow to shovel away from our kennel.

Never satisfied…and it was always better in the good old days.

New Year’s weekend has passed by as a wind from the mountains. Lots of lovely and interesting guests have been visiting us. Sadly we have been fully booked and have had to say no to lots of people who also wanted a sled dog tour. We have given them contact information to our colleagues in the area so hopefully they have meet some of our friends instead of us. Now, let’s make this to a very good year. Enjoy each day even if it’s heavy stuff or if it’s wind in the sails. A good attitude, some friends and coffee is a good help on the way!
