What a view (and the light 😍) during our Husky Trekking tour today ❤️

There are moments that really drive us crazy and leave us with big question marks. The last two weeks were just like that, which gave us sleepless nights.
One of our dogs, Makay, suddenly lost her appetite from one day to the next. Nothing serious at first, everyone can have a "bad" day. But when she still didn't want to touch anything on the second day and seemed calmer than usual, an appointment with the vet was made for the next day. Diagnosis: Acute kidney injury (AKI)
How and what caused it?? Questions that kept us busy for days while Makay was transferred to the hospital in Luleå for 5 days. She may have ingested a poisonous substance... But when and where? Detective work in the kennel and in the large freerun area. We tried to reconstruct all the days before the symptoms, remembering that she had dug in a hole in the freerun area. We check it and what do we find? Mushrooms... Cortinarius rubellus (dt.: Spitzbuckelter Raukopf; sv.: Toppig giftspindling). One of the most POISONOUS MUSHROOMS IN EUROPE! Even contact can cause kidney failure in humans and animals if no treatment is given within 4 hours. Ever heard of the mushroom? No? Neither have we!
How can it be that nobody really knows about such dangerous mushrooms that can grow anywhere under conifers? What if dogs sniff them while out for a walk? What if children touch these mushrooms?
Why do we teach every rubbish these days and not explain basic "survival" things?
We are still shocked!
Makay is now at home and has to go for another blood test next week. We will see if she will make it without permanent kidney damage.

To***co Trail 2024 (150 km limited) was a great success for us! 🥳 Never expected to get a 3rd place, there were so many really good dogs and mushers in this class 😵 But Zumaia, Brandon, Kerry, Aule, Ulmo (18 months!), Orome, Mandos and Duke did a wonderful job. Easy going, happy and motivated dogs through the whole race ❤️ See you next year , this time 300 km 😁

We are looking for a handler/helper (max. 2 persons, no own dogs) in Swedish Lapland/Malå.
Begin: Week 12/2024
End: Week 21/2024
Just in this period, not earlier and not later 😃

Where we need help:
- Feeding/cleaning the kennels/dog care
- Freerun with the dogs
- Training
- Tour and race preparation
- Maybe little work around the kennel
- Taking care of our dogs when we are on a race in April and a week abroad in May

What we expect:
- Independence
- Reliability
- Love towards animals
- Honesty
- Communication
- No problems with long, cold days
- Driver's license!
- No hair allergies towards dogs and cats

What we offer:
- Cozy guestroom at our house with shared bathroom and kitchen, WiFi
- Full board
- Some days are very short (just 3 hours work), some days can be 7-8 hours work
- 1 day/week off
- If you are not coming by car, you can use one of ours or we can drive you to the bus station if you want to go somewhere
