Stockholm is "the city on water", the Venice of the North. Tapestry made from a painting by Lars Lerin hangs in the Stockholm Palace, the detail of a fish is to be found on the gate to the City Hall and the statue of the boy and the fish is in the court yard of the City Hall.

Did you know that there is over 100 kilometres of art to explore in Stockholm's subway system? This is the red line station Stadion! ⁣😍

🌌 The station’s artists not only wanted to bring the sky underground, but also remind passengers of the nearby arena Stadion’s significance in sport’s history.

🏟️ The Stockholm Olympic Stadium, also called Stadion, was the venue for the 1912 Olympic Games – and is still one of Stockholm’s great event arenas!⁣

🌈 Many also associate this station with the Stockholm Pride festival, not only for the large, beautiful rainbow, but also because it is the closest station to the festival park site since many years!

The world of sightseeings in Stockholm continues.
The little China Palace is a gem. Unique in the world since most of it is intact since 1700s. Full with Chinese interior and artifacts from that time. Built for Queen Lovisa Ulrica and later used by Gustav III.

Busy days in Stockholm now. Very crowded from time to time. One day rain, one day sunshine... And lots of FIKA!

Past weekend was midsummer celebration in Sweden. In every village, in every city, in every family the longest day of the year was celebrated with midsummer pole, national costumes and lots of pickled herring!
These photos are from a small village in the province of Dalarna.

Today was a great day for a walking tour of Old Town. Not too hot, no rain and not so crowded. Just great!

📍 Welcome to Stockholm Public Library!

📚 Designed by Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund, the library opened its doors to the public in 1928. Built around a 24-metre high rotunda, it is something of a 20th-century icon among architecture aficionados.

Today, Stockholm Public Library houses some 400,000 books in different languages. 😍

🌟 Happy Ascension Day Eve! 🌟

Today we kick off Ascension Day weekend.

In Sweden, Ascension Day is more than just a day off. (Tomorrow are schools and businesses closed).

Today, on the eve of this holiday, it feels like a Saturday for many of us—a chance to enjoy a half-day of work and anticipate the extended weekend ahead. Some of us may even be lucky enough to take Friday off, giving us a wonderful opportunity for a long and relaxing break.

One beloved tradition during this time is the gathering of wood anemones, a symbol of spring's arrival. Many of us will be out collecting these delicate flowers to brighten our homes and tables, adding a touch of natural beauty to our surroundings.

But Ascension Day isn't just about flowers and time off—it's also a time for love and commitment. It's a popular weekend for weddings, as couples choose to embark on their journey together surrounded by the blessings of this special day.

As we pause to observe Ascension Day, let's also remember its significance in Christian faith—the 40th day after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. May this weekend be filled with love, joy, and blessings for all.

Wishing you a wonderful Ascension Day weekend filled with happiness and peace! 🌸🕊️

May 7 1697 did the Stockholm castle, Three Crowns, burn down. About 50 years later, the new hyper modern palace was ready for the royal family to move in.
It is still there, on the highest spot in Old Town. And it is still used by the Royal Family, now as their offices.
Part of the palace may be visited. Best with a guide, of course...
Put it on your to-do-list when you come to Stockholm!

Tonight is Walpurgis night!

This celebration dates back as far as the Middle Ages. In the beginning, it was celebrated in the countryside, to mark the passing of spring into summer. Farmers would lit bonfires to ward off any predators or evil spirits lurking in the shadows.

The bonfires are still part of the Walpurgis celebration, with a family-friendly bonfire event (and accompanying food stalls and choir performances) in virtually every part of the country.

Nowadays, it’s also an evening of partying and clubbing; Since the 1st of May is a holiday, and the school year has started to wind down, Valborg offers many opportunities to enjoy parties and music in all of Stockholm.

Cherry Blossom Day (Sakura matsuri) is celebrated tomorrow, April 28 in the park Kungsträdgården.

Hanami in Japanese means to admire the beauty of the cherry blossom has been a tradition in Japan since 1598. As in Japan, it has become a tradition for us Swedes to try to make it to Stockholm and the park during the bloom week. Then social media is overflowing with pictures of these beautiful blossoms.

The cherry trees were planted in 1998. The trees were a gift from the Japanese Emperor Akihito to King Carl XVI Gustaf. Since the beautiful blossoms only bloom for about a week, they symbolize the transience of life in Japanese culture.
