🍽 Tuesday Tastings ft. Frankie & Friends 🍽

This week, Frankie and Sanchia stopped by .se, the newly-opened and only Filipino restaurant in Sweden, located perfectly in the heart of St. Eriksplan district.

Founded by Elle Phillips, who has worked passionately for the past 4 years to share the love of her culture and its delicious food, Kanto Bistro offers an authentic Filipino dining experience. With friendly staff and a cocktail bar featuring flavors straight from the Philippines, it’s a true culinary gem.

The menu changes throughout the week, giving you the chance to explore a variety of dishes and desserts that are hard to find elsewhere (unless you know a Filipino, but even then, it won’t have Elle’s special touch 😉).

This bronze abstract art piece, Isobartema (Isobar Theme), sits at the end of Humlegården, right in front of the Royal Library. The term "isobar" is used in meteorology, thermodynamics, and nuclear physics. It’s most likely a nod to the meteorological concept of locations linked by the same air pressure 🌬️.

The artist, Martin Holmgren, was known for his abstract motifs 🎨. His other works can be found in the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, as well as in Gothenburg and Norrköping 🏛️.

Isobartema was commissioned through the Eva Bonnier donation committee. Eva Bonnier, a Swedish painter 🎨, dedicated her wealth to supporting artistic expression and conservation. The committee has been running art project competitions since 1911, though Isobartema was a special commission proposed to Holmgren by the committee 🤝.

"🏛️✨ Discover the Elegance of Stallmästaren 16 ✨🏛️

Step into history at Stallmästaren 16, a stunning example of Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) located at Fredrikshovsgatan 5 in Stockholm’s Östermalm district. Completed in 1905 by the renowned architectural firm Hagström & Ekman, this building is celebrated for its richly decorated stucco facade and intricate design details.

Originally built after relocating a military facility, Stallmästaren 16 stands as one of Stockholm’s finest preserved examples of its type. Its interior boasts exquisite Art Nouveau features like marble staircases and decorative stained glass windows.

This statue depicts Ernst Herman Thörnberg, a prominent Swedish writer and journalist from the early 1900s.
Thörnberg was deeply involved in what we would now call human services and social development. He played a significant role in matters like emigration to North America and authored influential papers in what we define today as sociology. A true socialite and networker, Thörnberg traveled extensively across the Nordics and the United States, where he was warmly received.

The bronze statue of Thörnberg was sculpted by Ulf Sucksdorff in 1987 and is located just outside the entrance of the Brunkeberg Tunnel in Stockholm.

💎 A gem of interior décor hidden in plain sight. 👀

Stuckatörens hus is a sublime historic house in Stockholm, located at David Bagares gata 10, near Hötorget. The name translates to "The Stucco Master's House," and it was the home and studio of Axel Notini, one of Sweden's most renowned stucco artists and sculptors. Finished in 1884, the house is a prime example of late 19th-century architecture, with its intricate stucco work and ornate interior details that reflect Notini’s craftsmanship.

The house is famous for its well-preserved interiors, which showcase the artistic techniques and decorative styles of the period. The rooms are adorned with rich stucco decorations, including ceilings with detailed plasterwork, lavish wall decorations, and elegant fireplaces. The design elements highlight the influence of the Neo-Renaissance and Baroque styles, popular in Sweden at that time.

Stuckatörens hus is not just a residential building but also a cultural monument that provides a glimpse into the life and work of a 19th-century artisan. Today, it is managed by the Stockholm City Museum and can be booked for private showings starting from 3190 kr - allowing select visitors to step back in time and experience the artistry and atmosphere of the late 1800s bourgeoisie in Stockholm.

This house is a hidden gem 🔍 in the city, especially for those interested in architecture, design, and the decorative arts. Who wouldn't want to live in this beautifully-adorned classic mansion? 😍

*Sculptures of Stockholm*

Every Sunday, we will showcase of the countless sculptures that are scattered across the city of Stockholm!

We first introduce you to a memorial statue found on one of the main islands of Stockholm - Södermalm. Titled, "Vi ses vid målet" (See you at the goal), it is in memory of a Swedish footballer ⚽, Lennart "Nacka" Skoglund. The origins of his nickname, "Nacka" is under debate, but it is most likely a nod to where he played during the winter.

Skoglund was a left winger and known for his dribbling ability as well as his powerful and accurate left kick, making him a favoured set-piece (a term used to in a return to open-play, such as penalties, throw-ins, etc).

Skoglund played in Sweden’s national team for the FIFA World Cup of 1950 & 1958, where they placed third and second, respectively. He also established himself as an important player for Inter Milan when he joined them in the early '50s.

Welcome to Hellstone Music Sven Hellsten, a local store founded by musician Sven Hellsten. Named after his Swedish surname ('Hellstone' in English), this shop is a gateway to the vintage music scene.

In Sweden - a powerhouse herself of skilled musicians and producers - Sven's passion for music led him to create this haven. Hellstone Music predominantly sells vintage drums, guitars, and amplifiers, along with fantastic memorabilia from the golden age of music.

To do so, Pol conducted several employee and customer interviews 📋, summarized all his findings, delivered key insights, and ultimately helped us at the leadership level understand what gaps and bottlenecks exist in our business.📈

🏛️✨ Discover the History of Strandvägen 49 ✨🏛️

Built in 1894-1895 by Isaak Hirsch and master builder O. Herrström, Strandvägen 49 is a stunning creation by architect S. Kjellström. Hirsch, a visionary, saw the potential of this prime location and invested in numerous properties here, even making Strandvägen 49 his own home.

The building boasts a unique gray terrasite plaster facade, a central bay window, and a striking tower on the right edge. At the Narvavägen/Strandvägen intersection, you'll find two towers with a bay window between them. The ornate gate and bay windows are crafted from natural stone, with the gate featuring intricate metal carvings and floral decorations.

Step into a piece of Stockholm's architectural heritage! 🏰✨

This is the end of my incredible adventure at XperienceSthlm! ✨

After 4 rewarding months in Stockholm, my marketing and communications internship is coming to an end! It's been an unforgettable experience, full of discoveries and learning alongside Frankie (our CEO) on a daily basis.

Here are some of the valuable lessons I'm taking away with me:

💪 First of all, adaptability, because every day brought new challenges and opportunities. I learned to adapt quickly and remain flexible to the week's schedule, for example.

💪 Secondly, my communication skills improved considerably, as working in an international team reinforced the importance of clear, direct communication in English. Of course, creating innovative marketing content and communication strategies has allowed me to unleash my creativity.

💪 I also acquired solid project management skills, from planning to ex*****on, such as posting on our various social networks, and teamwork, as working with such a passionate team taught me the importance of cohesion and collaboration.

A huge thank you 🙏 to the whole XperienceSthlm team for their support and warm welcome. A special mention to Frankie for her trust and guidance throughout my internship.

Thanks also to all the guides for their patience and sharing of knowledge. These encounters have taught me a lot and enriched me both professionally and personally.
