Autoliv and SSAB are pioneering a more sustainable future for vehicle safety through innovation. Together, we've developed the world's first 3D-printed seatbelt tongue made from fossil-free steel, utilizing SSAB AM high strength steel powder and an eco-friendly PVD coating.

This innovation reduces the carbon footprint of automotive components and demonstrates the potential for low-carbon plastics in future designs. It's a key step toward achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 and creating sustainable solutions for the mobility of tomorrow.

1.2 million lives are lost in traffic every year, a number that reminds us of the importance of safety for every driver, passenger, and pedestrian on the road.

Yesterday, we were honored to be part of hosting the India-Sweden Road Safety Day at the Embassy of Sweden in New Delhi, in collaboration with Business Sweden. Autoliv presented the updated Road Safety in India report (2024).

Established by Autoliv in 2018, the Joint Working Group for Road Safety in India brings together road safety experts with a vision to reduce road traffic fatalities in India. In 2020, the group presented a list of recommendations to the Transport Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari. With nearly 150,000 lives lost annually to road accidents in India, this collaboration is a critical step toward creating safer roads.

Autoliv shared key insights from our updated Road Safety in India report and highlighted the importance of embedding safety into India's rapidly growing mobility infrastructure. Inspired by Sweden's Vision Zero, the discussions focused on innovative approaches and collaborative efforts to reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries.

"It has been a pleasure working with the experts and compiling their valuable feedback to form the next set of recommendations for road safety in India. From our review, there has been significant progress in road safety based on the first report published in 2020 - progress is possible, and we have the tools and know-how to do it. This report highlights the most important opportunities for India for the next several years," says Tejas Chandran and Sivakumar Sudhachandran.

This milestone reinforces our vision of Saving More Lives and the strength of triple helix collaboration. It will also serve as a ground for discussions at the upcoming mid-term review of the decade of action for road safety during the 4th Global Ministerial Conference in Morocco.

Thank you to all our partners and participants for making this event successful.

Motorcycle and bike riders face disproportionate risks on today's roads, accounting for nearly 30% of global road traffic fatalities. At Autoliv, we're stepping up to address this critical safety gap.

Why we're focusing on motorcycle and bike safety:

→ Motorcycles often lack the advanced safety systems available to car occupants.
→ Riders represent some of the most vulnerable road users globally, with fatalities being high in low- and middle-income countries.

From pioneering on-motorcycle airbags to collaborating with the UN Road Safety Fund, we're dedicated to protecting riders and creating safer roads worldwide. This is a part of how we live our vision of Saving More Lives.

Crash test dummies might not get much attention, but they're the unsung heroes of road safety.

Our dummies measure impact forces, bending, and deceleration in real-time, providing critical insights that help us refine our safety solutions. This commitment to advanced testing ensures that every Autoliv product is built to perform when it matters most – in the real world. Because when it comes to safety, there's no room for compromise.

What innovations do you think are shaping the future of road safety? Let's start the conversation!

Autoliv's Seat Centric Restraint System (SCRS) recently excelled in car-to-car crash testing representative of future Euro NCAP requirements, setting a new benchmark in vehicle safety. The SCRS is designed to protect passengers in all directions by integrating airbags and belt systems directly into the seat, moving with the occupant for stable, consistent protection.

One of the unique benefits of SCRS is its ability to protect occupants in diverse interior and seating configurations, offering enhanced safety for all body types and ages, including elderly occupants. Tested in a medium-speed frontal impact, SCRS consistently showed lower injury rates, especially for chest protection, compared to traditional systems.

Not only is SCRS redefining passenger protection, but it also offers more design flexibility, giving vehicle manufacturers freedom in interior layouts without compromising safety. The SCRS is a truly omnidirectional concept, providing protection for all crash directions.
