The UISS is Sweden's oldest and largest summer language program. Backed by 50 years of experience, we offer a well-developed curriculum. Nowhere in Sweden will you find such an intensive summer program with such a rich choice of courses. The UISS organizes excursions that allow our students to visit sites around Sweden and to experience Swedish culture, history, and society first hand. People come
to Uppsala from all over the world and though the majority are students, we also have quite a number of adult students, such as teachers, interpreters, translators and business people.
We cannot believe these nine weeks have gone by so quickly! We will miss you all so much but hopefully we will see some of you next year!!!

The Lapland Trip (July 5 to 10, 2024) is a short backpacking trip that will take you through a very diverse and beautiful part of Swedish Lapland, just above the Arctic Circle.

To ensure that our students are placed in the correct level, we ask all applicants with some knowledge of the Swedish language to take an online placement test before submission of the application form.

2024 classes are scheduled 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday, with a minimum of 5 lesson hours daily in Swedish. 👩🏫
The morning classes are language studies, with a basic orientation into cultural and social patterns and characteristics, traditions and customs, integrated into the teaching material.
The great thing about our afternoon courses is that they are interactive, often include study visits, and allow you to try something completely different and do things you thought you’d never do.

"The staff and the students were amazing and we got to create some strong friendships. It is not just learning Swedish, there were also lots of other activities like visiting the ABBA museum, Stockholm, a moose safari and lots of wonderful museums. Uppsala is a very beautiful city, and I would recommend everyone to visit it. There is no wasted time at UISS; there is always something nice to do. It is the perfect balance for learning-socializing- traveling- partying and so on. We would recommend everyone to be part of this program. I am immensely grateful for the job I have Uppsala International Summer Session, Every single summer I have a wonderful group of people that have one thing in common, learning or improve the Swedish language. The joy I feel, the happiness to have people of all ages, 35-42 nationalities, together as a mini-world, is immense. They all get along just fine and they experience something they will take with them and spread it.
One of my students, Mona, sister to two brothers who studied with us a couple of summers, joined the program 2022 and 2023. I didn’t know she was Palestinian until last summer. She is a wonderful young woman, passionate about many things, intelligent, interesting, with a depth that is amazing, loving, has the gift of singing and playing several instruments. We keep in touch and she sent me this documentary that she and a couple of friends made. Their stories, their music and the way they talk about their culture is something very special.
I was personally very touched by this and I would love it if you took the time to watch it. The 3 of them studied together in Bristol, England. This is a very special documentary, personal. Three young people who wish to keep their culture alive. It has touched me deeply. Enjoy watching it, it’s about 20 minutes, and feel welcome to share it.
